I'm with Aggie One completely. The 1st year in the CAA buys us the currency to be slow and deliberate. There are no expectations of winning the CHIP in year 1. We have clearly done a poor job of getting the right man on the bench.
There isn't a better time for the BEST HBCU to land the BEST man or woman for the job.

It should not take a full year for the best HBCU to land the best man or woman for the job.
We can do that now. We can have somebody new here in one month.
Yall act like we are not currently living in the information age with advanced technology.
We dont have to send carrier pigeons and conduct secret meetings in smoke-filled rooms anymore.

I rather be slow and deliberate and get it completely right than to be quick on the draw for the sake of public perception and then have to keep re-visiting this problem every 12-24 months. Completely disagree. You do not have to be slow in order to get it completely right. Those two concepts do not go hand in hand. You can be deliberate and still have a sense of urgency. There are quality candidates who we can identify, vet, and hire right now - even before the 2002-03 basketball season begins. A serious athletic department would not throw away its first season in a brand-new conference just because they wanted to slow walk the process of finding a new coach. BTW: A good AD should already have a short list of candidates in his pocket just in case of times like this. Who's to say he doesn't already have a short list? We're going to be in the CAA for quite a while so upgrading coaching positions is a publicly verified given in presentations by the AD himself. I'm afraid that you're making certain assumptions that have not been established by actual evidence. A short list is simply that. A wish list of persons who you would love to consider for taking over the job. That doesn't mean they'll necessarily feel the same way about you. Good coaching candidates are like good players in many respects. The prime guys know it and have to be recruited and wooed just like prime athletes. They have options. You're simply not going to get those short list guys that you covet this close to the start of a new season unless you're willing to accept the strong possibility that whoever you choose at this late date to try to get them on board before the season starts may not be the ideal person for the job but just an OK hire. It will be at that point when we'll be throwing away a lot more than just our first year in a new conference.

Make a good hire in March and April. That’ll also allow the school to maintain its main goal of the capital campaign and master plan refresh. Those two things will be excellent tools to attract a higher caliber of coaches on top of coaching an HBCU in a mid-major conference.

Both can be true tho Thrilla. You make it seem as though it's an absolute must to have a new coach in place before the season starts. I'm not of that mindset.

Both of you guys have good points.....nothing to bicker over. Whether we're quick vs slow and deliberate.....GET THIS ISHT RIGHT!!!
This MBB coaching fiasco has spanned over DECADES. It's embarrassing. There needs to be different people in the room making the decision on our next head coach. If the same people who decided on Alexander, Joyner, and Jones are making the decisions......I'm done.

Today is August 19. The first game on our upcoming schedule is Nov. 7.
There is no reason whatsoever that we should have to go an entire season with a coach who will not be employed by the university in April of 2023.
We have enough time to make the right hire, right now.

I honestly think it's the money. I think we will continue to pay Jones until next June and that's the reason we aren't moving to hire a coach now. That's what happens when you're broke. It's the same reason we didn't hire an experienced track head coach. It'a the same reason we have 10 assistants slots missing from at least 4 teams.

Well, I will expect a mass exodus of players from the program...IE Track.

I definitely think guys will leave now that Koach Jones is gone. Players who have other options will not be excited about playing a whole season for a lame duck coach.
Keep on eye on social media for portal announcements.

We have enough time to make the right hire, right now. No chance to bring in the players the new coach and staff would want and no chance to change the out-of-conference schedule. We don't know if the new coach would want to play 3 sub-d1 schools as a CAA program.
