With transfer portal (which Ross didn't have in his first few years), I would expect Johnson to be nationally competitive again in 2-3 years tops. why would you place such a high expectation on coach johnson? or, perhaps you saying "nationally competitive" ain't quite the same as saying "nationally ranked". i'm not sure what "nationally competitive" means. but if it means anything approaching what coach ross' accomplished at a&t, i'd disagree with that. i mean, think about it? coach ross was the only d1 hbcu track coach "in history" to build a "top 5" men's and women's track program at an hbcu. those are very big shoes to fill and only "1" man in history has done that. so to me, its not fair to expect coach johnson to become only the 2nd d1 hbcu track coach "in history" to build a "top 5" men's and women's track program at an hbcu. heck, i used to talk smack to wssu alums when bill hayes and connell maynor first left wssu, saying wssu would "fall back to the pack" as a result. i expect the same thing to happen to our track program since coach ross is no longer here. mind you, i was the first and only poster on bdv who "predicted" long before we were top 5 ranked that coach ross would challenge for a d1 "national championship". point being? i call things exactly the way that i see it. so i'm not trying to bash coach johnson, i'm actually supporting him by not placing unreasonable expectations on him. if i thought the stars would align for him to build a top 5 program, i'd say so just like i did when i predicted coach ross would challenge for a d1 "national championship"... I'll just agree with some of your statement. Personally I think that with time Johnson can possibly exceed Ross's work provided he gets the same support from the Institution. Ross had 10 years to achieve and position A&T in the top 5 or 10 . Johnson should be given the same level of opportunity. Like I said before Ross is old history, Johnson has to write the new history of A&T's T&F program but don't get it twisted expectations come with the job especially when you're replacing a legend . Johnson has a few more tools to work with but I don't see the portal as his main tool of purpose . I'll see which direction he is going with his first recruiting class because I think that this year will be his year of evaluating the talent on hand going forward.

Ross’s stars were equally split between high schoolers, JUCO AND transfers.

Ross’s stars were equally split between high schoolers, JUCO AND transfers. That is my point exactly . That's how you build a program . There is enough High School and JUCO talent out there that unless there is a special talent or discipline you cannot fill , you shouldn't have to use the portal.

Where in my statement did I even reference Johnson's credentials? I didn't. My point is this the man deserves the same chance that Ross was given because there is no one on this board that had even heard of Ross until he was selected as our T&F Coach ( outside of his track credentials) and even then some had questions about his ability to recruit talent at this level , just because he came from a D3 program . If I'm lying you can correct me . It wasn't until the recruits started coming in in his first recruiting class did most on here got on board , and even laughed when Ross said he wanted to win the Nationals. Johnson should be given the same chance, because no one knows what he can or can not do regardless of his record at NCSU a program that could careless about there track program ( outside of X/C and distance running . His first recruiting class will tell us all .
