That video looks like about 140-150. Dang....I know we probably don't need a 250+ band, but it'd be dope to see, if we had consistent scholarship $$$ of course

Hey guys, BGMM numbers will remain about the same every year because of two factors...we can't compete with scholarships and our band facilities are trash! When you have $115,000 for band scholarships and other HBCUs have $500,000 to $1 million, we lose a lot of talented high school musicians. Plus we practice in a muddy poorly lit parking lot behind the stadium. And our band room is a dilapidated warehouse.
Think about it, how successful would our football team be at recruiting if 80% of the players received no scholarships money and we still used the old field house?

I get disgusted whenever I look over that scholarship comparison. Ain't no way we should still we operating like this.

They've articulated that the Capital Campaign will be for both Athletics and the BGMM. Hope the BGMM gets enough to be in the $500k - 1M game, if not more.

Don't just look at scholarships... get a face mask and take stroll to the Band Complex (the old warehouse next to Church's Chicken). It's depressing! If I was an Instrumental Music Major today, there's no way I'd attend a university with our crappy facilities. And that's the opinion of lots of music majors today! Our music department has been on a steady decline the past 20 years.

That band complex & the one across the street they used to be in when i was in undergrad (Freshman year '07).....just a sad situation man. & When is the capital campaign supposed to begin? All the good work Martin has done, and the band is at a stand still. terrible

69...you make valid points. It's frustrating to see all of the university on the come up and the band is left out there to swim or drown. It's a "Catch 22" because, they cannot do like Howard and Hampton whose band programs protested against the university for more funding. At A&T they have to perform or get embarrassed and the leadership will lose jobs. So as I always say, Dr. Ruff takes his lemons and makes lemonade. Now some years are better than others so, the lemonade may not be as sweet. But, to reiterate 69's point, it is a shame to see the conditions they (band students) work in. And here we sit at the beginning of another season and the contingent will be looking for the BGMM to be on point with no excuses.

I think the problem is that the BGMM has been so damn consistent over the years and so innovative, that most people here just think they already have the resources they need.
You guys probably need to do a better job of explaining just how a bigger band with more musicians would somehow result in better quality.
I think most fans are happy with what we currently have because we still seem to be "winning".
