Hey guys, let's face it, we're always going to have this problem! If we hire a coach that builds a great program, somebody with deeper pockets is going to pay him or her to leave. We're never going to be financially able to out bid the big boys for great coaches. So let's just get use to it. Our only other option is to hire marginal coaches that build mediocre programs that no one wants to hire. So my only suggestion is let's get better at identifying and hiring coaches that the power 5 will eventually want to buy off. I'd rather have a winner like Coach Ross for a short period than some of the mediocre coaches we've hired for a lifetime! I have been saying this for years now.

pending we maintain the level of support to Track and Field. Besides Ross' salary, what additional support have we provided to our track and field program? Does Ross have a much larger recruiting or scholarship budget than other mid-major coaches?

Thanks Coach Ross for making our track program known throughout the world and for highlighting our university.
I am truly surprised that a power 5 had not hired him away before now.

Unlike A&T athletics UT already has him in their website as the HC, this took place in what less than a hour after public release? We still have football coaches on our site that left in December, straight laziness and apathy. I’m starting to agree with AggieBlackie that we need to make some changes at every level of leadership with the department. Wow 2039, you are really on one today. There is no reason to be in your feelings. It was a win for all parties. I'm not sure I agree that Aggie Incompetence as you state is the reason for Mr. Ross' departure. Supporters > Fans I’m not on one or in my feelings, I know what a well ran forward leaning organization looks like and this isn’t it. Is it ok for coaches that have left the program to still be on our official site? Is ok that we haven’t had a state of athletics address from administration? Is it ok that BT had to force the school to release a statement about coaches leaving the program? Is it ok that football had zero discipline last year? Is it ok that the grass is brown? Is it ok that GW had to get an escort to their bus after the football game? Is it ok that there is still no replacement for Carl? Is it ok that TSU, JSU and other schools are already selling and promoting season tickets for football about a month ago while we are left wondering when sales will start? The Athletics department has grown complacent at all levels and it’s time for changes. It’s natural, when people are a job for a long time they become complacent! What we see or ignore as fans is just the tip of the iceberg, I can only imagine how truly dysfunctional the department is.

Aggie incompetence is definitely the straw that broke the camels back. Much larger programs have been after him for years. Our department and understanding of athletics is so JV we assume the AD needed permission for the hire from their BOT. Tennessee relieved their coach of responsibilities on Thursday and hires Ross in less than 5 days. We have an article published on Friday regarding an ineligible athlete, the women’s 4x100 and 4x400 can’t compete now because of this. We messed up, the HBCU curse of apathy bit us in the butt, hopelessly we learn a lesson and get off our @sses. Give "the HBCU curse" take a rest. This had been in the making way before today. Power 5's don't hire and fire coaches on a whim. They make very calculated moves when they really want someone. Trust and believe Ross was already gone well before last week. No it is a HBCU curse, FAMU lost a QB a couple years ago because of a compliance issue. We still haven’t hired a replacement for Carl so I doubt we’ve hired someone to replace the guy that died. I refuse to accept mediocrity or make excuses for folks being paid to perform a job.

Does Ross have a much larger recruiting or scholarship budget than other mid-major coaches? From what's been documented on here and in articles, yes. He's had his full allotment of scholarships and a pretty sizable budget for recruiting nationally.

It’s natural, when people are a job for a long time they become complacent! I do agree that this is a widespread issue within our athletic department. It is human nature.

Our athletic department really does need a change at the top for various reasons. This department just looks tired from observation and performance. A&T just need a new paint job in this area to invigorate us for the CAA and other sport endeavors.
I know many on this site don't agree with me but just my thought.

No, but then again I'm not looking for a P&L statement that a CEO/CFO would give shareholders Is it ok that BT had to force the school to release a statement about coaches leaving the program? No, that is a peeve of BT Is it ok that football had zero discipline last year? No, we need to be better Is it ok that the grass is brown? No, but you better win on the brown stuff or Is it ok that GW had to get an escort to their bus after the football game? Isolated incident Is it ok that there is still no replacement for Carl? Not sure, do you know the reason why Is it ok that TSU, JSU and other schools are already selling and promoting season tickets for football about a month ago while we are left wondering when sales will start? Who cares about TSsnooze or JSwho

Someone in compliance department died of covid during the height of those covid deaths". This is/was covid times and confusion on covid year and semesters of eligibility left. Nothing to do with grades. I believe he died in the fall

First time I'm hearing about this.
