Don't remember if somebody has said this already but Dr. Cavil (Inside the HBCU Sports Lab) made a good point yesterday:

Coach Ross' move to UT knocks down the history/idea of HBCU coaches being able to cross over to be coaches at PWIs. UT being a P5 makes it that much better for us, where candidates see they can have a chance to get to more $$$, more prominence, etc.

How about the person leading the search for FAMU's replacement AD just said they expect to have and AD in place by the Orange Blossom Classic (9/4/2022).

Some of y'all would disavow any connection to Wakanda/AggieLand.

Not saying I wouldn't also disavow!

I wanted to see the names suggested for our new coach and found these 6 things (decided not to list everything I thought was interesting):

First:
- WCA said - I would for us to make an outside-the-box hire, if possible.

- Thrilla responded with - Like a big-named former Olympian? Please explain.


I think we mostly surpassed Thrilla’s question – Former Olympian (Check), Big Named (Gold Medalist, 3-time Olympian & seems to be well known in T&F circles)


Second:
- Trues said - Man we done we will never find a coach like Ross.

I believe MOST would say Coach Johnson’s incoming credentials are better than Coach Ross’ were, except I don’t believe Johnson has been a HC before coming to Wakanda/AggieLand. We’ll see how he performs as our coach.


Third:
- Maxell said on 6/11 - If we were the kind of program we expect to be, we would be naming a new coach next week. If we did that I would say we had turned the corner, but as life would have it we will probably go through the BOT process and not see anything until next month at the earliest.

I don’t know that naming a coach by this week was what I expected us to be but we did what Maxell said, with a couple days to spare! I, also, don’t know that we’ve “turned the corner” or whatever that means, but I see some good progress (at least in coaching hires)


Fourth:
- WCA said - We have a Trustees meeting next month. I doubt an emergency to approve a track coach hire is going to happen this month.

They had some kind of mtg and we hired a coach in June.


Fifth:
- 919aggie said - lol we didn't know about coach Washington signing a 4yr contract, or the decision to move to the Big South/CAA. We will have to rely on HBCU Gameday as usual.

I think Earl said “HBCU Gameday ain’t got nuthin’ on me!”


Sixth:

Nobody said anything about Johnson, that I see.

Houston had the ability to match any Auburn salary offer. And considering the legendary status of Burrell and Carl/Carol Lewis at Houston... there has to be more to it.

I think this is more Burrell needing to move on from Houston after the passing of his son Cameron this past year. I wish that pain on no parent. Especially considering this was his first Father's Day without him.

While it's dirty and shrewd work for Coach Ross, He's a first-ballot A&T Hall of Famer.
