That means we would potentially need to find three more OOC games to replace Kennesaw, North Alabama and Monmouth. That could be Coach's saving grace for next year. That also leaves Robert Morris on an island. It will be interesting to see how the conference responds. The Big South would be in the exact same position as the MEAC with six(6) football playing schools, but with only five of them being full time members. Something has to give. Losing those 3 from a travel perspective is a gain for us, they were all Football only schools right? Finding 3 OOC games in the short term might be a scramble, but in the long term I seeing these three going as good for A&T. We should be able to fill those slots with regional FCS programs and other HBCUs. If we could get an ELON (CAA) and Western Carolina (SoCo) as fixtures on our schedule then we would be playing every FCS program in the state. Add to that mix a steady rotation of MEAC programs like SCSU, NSU, and Howard. That would give us the opportunity to further reduce travel costs, increase our statewide and regional influence, solid chances at BS Championships/playoff appearances, and appealing schedules for fans of HBCU football.

If the CAA takes Monmouth in '22, that trip to the NYC Metro is gone. That's good budget-wise, in addition to those trips to Huntsville and Atlanta being axed.
Conversely, we could look for another home game against a CIAA school in September and possibly another FBS team to play to help add to the coffers.
SOS-wise, It'll hurt our chances for an At-Large bid unless we get a schedule alliance with the A-Sun who's losing teams to FBS.

The football portion of the Big South is falling apart almost as fast as the MEAC.

We need to starting looking in the mirror. The only common denominator here is us.
Maybe A&T is just a conference killer. lol

If this indeed comes to fruition, this will be good for us and definitely good for Monmouth. For the Hawks, playing Maine, Albany, Villanova, Rhode Island, Stony Brook & New Hampshire annually should save them some $$ versus traveling down south. Plus, the CAA isn't a one-bid league like the Big South. For us, we avoid the bi-annual trip the Jersey Shore which could hopefully open the door for an additional regional OOC game (HBCU maybe). My immediate question is the effective date. Will the Big South let them leave for the 2022 season without penalty? I know that they are a football-only member so I'm not sure. I am already pissed that we won't get a chance to 'get back' Kennesaw State. I hope we get our shot at redemption versus Monmouth.

But in all seriousness, we have to begin separating the football side of the conference from the rest of the Big South. I suspect a day will come where A&T will have Football in a separate conference from Basketball and other sports. And if the MEAC adds Chicago State to their fold, Aggies that are MEAC loyalists can kiss that goal good-bye! Either way, there will be multiple FCS conferences (A-Sun, Big South, MEAC, OVC, Southland, WAC) with 7 teams or less. It's going to lead to ample opportunities for A&T to end up playing the HBCUs Alumni and fans truly care about.

It'll be something for Earl, Harold, and our BOT to monitor if they care.

If I'm not mistaken and my old notes (2 years old) from the AAF meetings on our move are still correct, the immediate exit fee out of the Big South is 100K. A 2-year notice gets you a waiver of the exit fee. Kennesaw State and North Alabama both paid the 100K last summer so they could make this year's quick jump to the A-SUN.

Then, they'll pay the $100k. This will open up a home game, since we were supposed to travel up there in 2022. Give Winston or Fayetteville State a call. We could use a win and an additional HBCU home game on the schedule.

Since we'll only have five conference games that gives us at least six non-conference opponents. We have NCCU, Norfolk, NDSU officially set for next year leaving three slots open. My guess would be SCSU quickly becomes a traditional game for us again as in past years. The other two slots would up for debate - a possible HBCU classic, an in-state D-2 (CIAA), or another FBS pay day now all come into play.

I think the BS & ASUN have some kind of agreement to play one game each year, so that would be one of our 3 opens, if it's true.

A&T in the Circle City Classic has to be a given against Jackson State has to almost be a given if the CCC promoters can come up off the cash.

So much for Howard and Hampton…
Wonder what the BS is going to do.

I'm thinking DMV for sure -- Howard or Morgan State (get back) or Towson or Georgetown...or 6th home game.
The Monmouth game is/was tentatively scheduled for November this year so it will be interesting to see how this shakes out.
