HANRAHAN, La. – The North Carolina A&T bowling team is in third place after the first day at the 2021 Colonial Classic, hosted by Tulane University. The Aggies went 4-1 on Friday afternoon, breaking 1,000 pins in four of those baker matches.
A&T, the sixth-ranked team in the nation by the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA), opened their season with a 945-883 victory over No. 18 Lincoln Memorial University. The Aggies followed that with a 1,041-632 triumph over Grambling State before a crucial upset over No. 4 Vanderbilt, 1,012-904.
The Aggies face No. 9 Louisiana Tech in Game 4. The two teams played to a 1,028 tie at the end of regulation. The teams competed in a tiebreaker round that saw A&T eventually fall to the Bulldogs, 106-87.
In the final match of the day, the Aggies got back on the right track and beat No. 10 Stephen F. Austin, 1,019-974 heading into Saturday's traditional matches.
The competition will resume Saturday at 10 a.m. in traditional play. The Aggies will get a shot at redemption against Louisiana Tech in the first matchup of the day. That match will be followed by matches against host and No. 16 Tulane, No. 22 Prairie View A&M, No. 6 Sam Houston State, and Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) foe Florida A&M.
