CAA portends to be an academically elite conference. Harvey is probably having a wet dream with all these rumors. My understanding is that is why Elon received an invite. Does Monmouth fit that profile? UNCW is considered academically elite? Northeastern too. 🙄

I’m quite sure the CAA wouldn’t mind swapping Elon for UNCG and Monmouth. Bro, UNCG is in the southern conference….they aren’t leaving just to travel up and down the east coast

If Monmouth and/or Howard were to make the jump to the CAA, which would probably encompass all of the sports at both schools, what would it mean for the MEAC and the Big South? If so, I see another major east coast FCS motivated realignment shift involving all three conferences taking shape in the very near future.

If Howard or anyone else leaves, it'll drop them below 8 full-time D1 members. They'll have 2 years to get back over that threshold or they'll lose their D1 charter.

If Monmouth leaves it will be only be 7 football schools in the BS. If Howard gets the invite to the CAA and Hampton doesn’t, Harv is gonna be pissed. MEAC and the BS should be having conversations and maybe throw the OVC in the mix. What’s the incentive for UNCG to leave the SoConn for the CAA?

What’s the incentive for UNCG to leave the SoConn for the CAA? That’s a good question. Their president wants to increase their athletic profile. While the SoCon is a strong Mid-Major basketball conference, there’s a belief that Elon is a rival and that Furman may join them in that CAA southern division. They also want to get into a broader market much like Gonzaga, Wichita State, and Virginia Commonwealth. That’ll mean playing in multiple NE markets. The downside to the CAA is their FloSports deal.

My prediction is Elon and William & Mary will head back to Southern Conference.

man, here we go with the “fantasies” again. some of you folk are trippin’ if you think the caa will invite “any” hbcu to their conference.
there’s a reason that the bsc waited “35 years” before it bothered to invite an hbcu to join their conference. and that’s because the bsc was in the “intensive care unit” on life support and had no other choice but to invite hbcu’s just to keep their conference afloat.
however, that’s not the case for the caa nor the socon. but i could see the caa inviting monmouth to join their conference since monmouth fits their northeastern footprint...

And that’s where the problem will lie for the Big South and ultimately the MEAC. They can’t afford to lose any more full members. Otherwise, they will lose their D1 charter.

The big south has 12 full time members not 8, Monmouth isn’t a full time member…football only.
