People tend to say the mics the Media Team uses make us sound better. I actually think they make us sound worse. Listen to this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7OVrvlljGUTrombones and bass drums are there, but just barely. Compare to this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OB-p-pS52EThat sounds a lot more like what I hear in person, minus the wind noise. What do you all think?

Whatever they used for the last home game, keep doing that.

I think the band is fine...they sit on their hands a lot now during the game. Takes some getting used to.

I think the band is fine...they sit on their hands a lot now during the game. Takes some getting used to. The band is more than fine - from field shows, stand performances, execution - this is one of the best we've ever put out. As far as sitting on their hands - that's not new. Between not playing when the ball is in motion and sharing time with advertising, it was a battle to find time to play in the MEAC, and the Big South may be even more unforgiving. They're doing better at shorter songs they can fit in between breaks, chants they can do while plays are happening, and supporting what's going on on the field in general. It's a work in progress, but so is the football team. We'll adjust. It's specifically the microphones we use to record the clips I'm talking about. It's been a re-occurring complaint that the band doesn't blow like we used to - check out the comments here, and other places too: www.youtube.com/watch?v=hO-H97q3UGgThe same song sounds great in the A1Media clip. Pay attention to the bass drums - they're pretty weak in the media team clips, but in the second clip they're loud and clear, so are the trombones, and the upper brass still comes through. It may sound like I'm nit picking, but I'm not. Some may not be able to tell difference between the two clips, but there's a significant, and influential number of bandheads that know exactly what I mean. Power is something we've always been known for - FAMU was calling us Baby Jackson back in the day, and even though we've cleaned the sound up (a good thing) it's still there. But our media clips are a turn off to crank fans, and more importantly, high school kids that spend all day on youtube. Sure, some know enough to know what they're seeing, and hearing, but in the recruiting game we're after every advantage we can get. If every one of our clips sounded like the second one I posted you'd hear a lot less from the A&T has no power crowd.

I agree. Although very clean, the low end and the drums are many times "missing" from the media team clips. It's much more powerful in in person while maintaining the clarity.

Why Aren't We Playing?
I'm sure that if you've attended any A&T football games this season, you probably wondered why the BGMM wasn't playing as much in the stands as in previous seasons. This change has nothing to do with our new conference or new NCAA regulations. They're not playing as much because there's a lot more things going on at the breaks... more commercials for local business sponsors, more University announcements and more student and alumni recognitions.
So the BGMM now must share some of their playing time with others. But when they do get to perform in the stands, they still rock Truist Stadium. Now you know why they aren't playing.
