Chauncey Warren Walker, Jr. of Hampton, Virginia departed life peacefully on August 14, 2021. Born to the late Chauncey Warren Walker, Sr. and Ethel Christian Walker, on September 11, 1945 in Newport News, Virginia, Chauncey received Christ at an early age. He was a life-long member of First Baptist Church, King Street, in Hampton, VA and graduated in 1963 from Phenix High School.
Following high school, Chauncey attended North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NC A&T) where he graduated in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering. While there, he was a dedicated member of the marching band, concert band, and the brass ensemble. Additionally, he served as Band President for the marching band. After graduation, he remained a faithful member of the NC A&T Alumni Band, and marched for 40 consecutive years during homecoming celebrations. Chauncey provided ongoing support for his beloved university as President of the Tidewater Aggie Club, now known as the Aggie Athletic Foundation, and as a member of the NC A&T Tidewater Alumni Chapter.
Chauncey Warren Walker, Jr. lived a very full life. He retired after a distinguished 43-year career as a naval architect and structural engineer for the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Additionally, he served his community as a softball player and coach for recreational leagues in the City of Hampton. He enjoyed yard work and making repairs around his home. But few activities gave him more joy than attending football games and watching half-time performances at North Carolina A&T State University.
Chauncey was preceded in death by his mother Ethel Christian Walker and his father, Chauncey Warren Walker, Sr.
He leaves to cherish his memories: Zenobia McCracken Walker, his wife of 48 years; daughter and apple of his eye, born on his birthday, Dr. Christy A. Walker of Durham, N.C.; Brother Marvin D. Walker, Sr. (Yang), of Silver Spring, MD; a very special sister-in-law, Barbara W. McCracken of Hampton, VA.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the North Carolina A&T Alumni Band Association in his memory.
After years of dedication to the generations that followed him, and a long career, Chauncey can rest with the knowledge that his life made our world a better place. Memorial Service August 20, 2021 at 1 pm @ Nickelson-Cummings F.H.
