Maybe it's not needed, but I thought that I'd start a thread about our upcoming football season moving forward (not about the conference move, not about descension, not about any dissension, etc.)...

A conf game is a good one, Hampton and A&T are not rivals and will never be in football. Basketball and track may be a different story.

I think we enter the Big South with a huge target on our backs. Nobody wants to lose to the HBCU folks. Their alumni will make it clear to the coaches and players that it's important not to lose to us.

Their alumni will make it clear to the coaches and players that it's important not to lose to us. No doubt there will be a target on our backs...we always seem to have a target on our backs. Folks love to beat us when we on top, and kick us when we down. The questions will be how do we deal with it, especially now that we are in a new conference. Think about it, we step in the door as a big dog...in size and reputation. On any given Saturday A&T can kick your a$$ on the field, flood your stadium with fans, and have our band blow you out of the stands. We have an opportunity to be very successful we have to just keep making chicken.

In football everything comes down to players, coaching and RECRUITING. In that order. We keep doing that well and replacing talent with the next man up mentality and we will dominate the conference. That's it. Then us fans can poke our chest out afterwards. Hampton was a mediocre program with none of the things I mentioned and that's why they haven't won in the Big South. Not because "we gotta beat the black school my any means necessary". If we handle our business, short of paying the refs the other schools cant do anything about it but step their own in-house game up year to year.

It's really 2 big games with a bunch of Trap Games is how I see the Big South conference in football This is a very good way of putting it. We cannot expect to just show up in this new conference and win it. Can we do it? Absolutely! The season-opening OOC game at Furman is going to be a huge barometer for us. I'm curious to see how we handle the twenty-one month layoff and whether that will work in our favor or not. This, in addition to the fact that we are sneaking up on NO ONE.

I will not sleep on Autrey Denson and his Charleston Southern team. I see we're slated to go back down there this year.
