Yeah I’m pretty much with Aggie77 on this one here. As an engineering major, I never once wondered if Ronald McNair paid his alumni dues or was once apart of the Aggie Club.
I do remember it going around that we paid Jessie for the commencement ceremony, but what was verified or urban legend is up for debate.

It’s probably only me and Gator vs the universe on this one, but after seeing Arkansas in particular (and most every other school in general) grant naming rights based on donations, and knowing Jesse’s loooong history in getting corporations to donate to various causes, what’d he do for us specifically but graduate and dip?
I admittedly haven’t been high on Jesse since the charging for convocation debacle so there is that. If it was me, I’d be more than happy to offer him a building IN EXCHANGE for fundraising assistance. The man built a career on pointing out injustices and convincing corporations to donate to correct inequality. We can ask did Ron McNair do the same, but Ron McNair did not live long enough to have the opportunity.
Everything else being equal as of right now today I would at most endow a scholarship or tenured professor position in his name.

His contributions are immeasurable. I'd suggest naming a dorm or future dorm after him.

Boy we're hard on a brother. I think donations are important but truly can't be the only criteria for being honored. Based on some comments we'd be skeptical of honoring Dr.King because J. Edgar Hoover had some damming tapes on him. Jessie ain't pure but he is a important Civil Right leader and Aggie . Pump the brakes! despite his shortcomings his human frailty, Jesse Jackson is worthy of being honored here. Those here being critical has no idea of the amount pain that he has suffered due to his fights for the advancement of African Americans. None of us can judge nor should judge him. In terms of the public execution Martin Luther King Jr and Jesse's metaphysical complicity God is the Arbiter of Jesse and none of us who for the most part have been non participants in this legitimate struggle for human rights which has and continues to have an indelible impact upon this nation. Leave Jesse Rhymer alone.

to not honor a&t's most "recognizable" alum because he "might have" requested being paid to speak at our commencement is very "petty". this man has done more in his lifetime to support african americans and their rights than any other aggie alum in history and at age "79", he's still fighting for us!! "today" in dc, jesse jackson got "arrested" while protesting new laws from republican led state houses to challenge people's voting rights. whereas his alma mater recently decided to collaborate with a bunch of pwc institutions who actually support such laws. maybe that's why a&t hasn't honored jesse jackson by naming a building after him since there's seemingly a conflict of interest between what a&t is now doing compared to what jesse jackson is doing... wjla.com/news/instagram/protesters-rev-jesse-jackson-arrested-dc-voting-rights-rallyActivists, including Rev. Jesse Jackson, arrested in DC while protesting for voting rights
by Sam Ford and 7News StaffMonday, August 2nd 2021Washington, D.C. (7News) — The Reverend Jesse Jackson, the Reverend William Barber of the Poor People’s Campaign, and dozens of others were arrested Monday afternoon for blocking Constitution Avenue in front of the Dirksen and Hart Senate Office buildings. It was the end of a protest that began outside Union Station where hundreds of people decried new laws from state houses to challenge voting rights, as they called on Congress to provide nationwide protections to the vote. Among those attending were Linda Johnson Robb and Luci Baines Johnson Turpin, the daughters of President Lyndon Johnson, who passed the 1965 Voting Rights act, which removed many barriers preventing Black people from being able to vote. Turpin noted how Democrats and Republicans worked together to pass the 1965 act, saying, “it was the right thing to do then and it’s the right thing now.”

I think we should honor Reverend Jackson for what he's done in the fight for civil rights regardless of what funds he may or may not have given to the University. He was on the front line of the civil rights movement in his early days and that wasn't easy.

He's been on the front lines and he's also been shady.
That being said as I said earlier I'm for naming an tenured professorship and/or an endowed scholarship for him. A building is a bit much imo.

He's been on the front lines and he's also been shady. I'm honestly trying to think of any modern leader who that description would not apply to.

a&t has used and benefited “big time” from marketing his “name” as an aggie alum. i’m sure that his “name” as an aggie alum resulted in a fair number of students over many years enrolling at a&t. so a&t has made money (tuition) on his name, probably many, many thousands of dollars if not millions.
when you are a “world renowned” civil rights leader and former usa presidential candidate, being a bit “shady” is very common. but that never stopped a&t from using his “name” to promote a&t.
the man is a “walking history book” who very often returns to campus. it would be darn right “disgraceful” not to honor him by naming a building or erecting a statue of him on campus in his name...

The United States honors presidents who were slave owners, drunks, bigots, KKK affiliated, cheaters and more.
Jesse is not perfect as was MLK who has a National holiday in his honor. I am sure many of us who oppose honoring Jesse has skeletons in their closets also.
The brother has represented A&T well and our institution has benefitted from his name as well.
We need to stop using his name for A&T's advantage but curse him behind his back and not honor him in some manner.
He deserves more than having a room named after him. He is human just like everyone else.
