Kinda funny how no one has even mentioned the idea of venturing out to other HBCUs, particularly in the SWAC. Schools with actual fanbases that are guaranteed to come here and vice versa. And would be more competitive on top of everything else. Always feel like we’re in a fishbowl looking through the glass at everybody actually have competitive environments at games. I understand NSU deal was inked because they’re probably going to the Big South soon, but I just don’t see the advantage in other games in the North. Schools that play awful football right and for the foreseeable future, have zero atmosphere currently, and that most of our students genuinely do not know/care about (I’m a current student). The only positive is to keep Aggie alums from that area happy right now. We leave the MEAC to make sure our first priority is to play a bunch of Northern schools with terrible football quality, no fans, and little exposure, hardly even a “rivalry” history. I wish that we could get something started with Bama State & AAMU. I always welcome the perspective of the students!
I like your idea of starting an athletic relationship with Alabama A&M and Alabama State. We already have a link with Alabama State's athletic administration and a tie to AAMU's football staff.
(Years ago, we had a nice OOC rivalry with Tennessee State in both basketball and football that should have never gone away.) A series with Bama State alone would be super pleasing. Their stadium is legitimate FBS group of 5 level, their fanbase is great, and they would be way more competitive on the field than MSU, Howard, NSU, etc. and we would open ourselves to Alabama recruits. It’s a no-brainer. TSU as well

The way scheduling is shaping up is in my opinion promising. We are playing HBCUs within driving distance allowing us to maximize our in game experiences. The new conference affiliation with added media content exposure helps us to consistently have our name out there. I'll be honest, if we continue on this trajectory as long as we continue performing at a high level we are going to have our cake and eat it too. I agree.

More A&T fans go to the Howard(DC) game than the NSU(Norfolk) game, it's not even close.

More A&T fans go to the Howard(DC) game than the NSU(Norfolk) game, it's not even close. And that is because it's no secret that we Aggies will head up to DC at the drop of a hat on Aggie-Bison Weekend. It's gauged by most as our preferred destination over anywhere else (including Atlanta) and many, if not most, never purchase game tickets. They just want to be in The District.
In contrast, I would guess that 90% of Aggies heading to Norfolk for Aggies-Spartans Weekend will purchase game tickets.

a/r, that's not entirely true. yes, some aggies do travel to dc for games against howard. but the "vast majority" of aggies who attend games at howard "RESIDE" in the dc area and i know that for a "fact" because i see a lot of the very same aggie alums every year at not only howard but also at morgan state and coppin state games. most of us recognize each other because we see a lot of the same faces every year. long time ago i used to think the same as you do, that "tons" of aggies travel to dc when we play howard, morgan, or coppin. yes, it is true that some aggies do travel to dc, but the "vast majority" of aggies who attend those games are alums who live in the dmv area...

For THIS Aggie, correct. I'm in DC at the drop of a hat all the way from Charlotte.

I think NSU is a good regional matchup and they seem to be committed to building a strong athletic program, so this should be competitive in the future. Matchups with the Alabama schools, FAMU, TSU, JSU, and Southern are appealing. I want PV because we owe them one. I also like Howard and Morgan for all the reasons folks have mentioned.

More A&T fans go to the Howard(DC) game than the NSU(Norfolk) game, it's not even close. But does that put $$$ directly into A&T coffers? Nah, not directly, but there's an indirect impact that should be considered. I guess I'm nostalgic for the way it was and how it grew. On many occasions the Friday night before the game the Chancellor and AD attended a reception at the old Alumni House or a spot in DC, after the game the Chapter would feed the team at the Old Alumni House or a member's church. That kind of consistent informal gathering is the foundation of relationship fundraising. When you have the Administration, Coaches, players, young and old Alums breaking bread together win or lose it develops a bond. If we lose that continuity that has been fostered since the 50s, yes I fear donations will go down, simply because the new people won't have that bond with each other, the University, the Teams. People want more than the monthly Chapter meeting. Two memories, both loses. Coach Small's last season (I think). He didn't get off the bus. Ms. Beasley said, "Go out there and tell that blankety-blank he better get his "blankety-blank" in here, or he's gonna be walking home!" Of course that's not what she actually said, but I could read her mind. So that's what I told him. Of course he got off the bus and received a big hug when he stepped inside. Coach Broadway's first trip to DC, we came up a yard short that day. During the meal I don't think anybody went within ten feet of Coach, not the Chancellor, not the AD, not the other Coaches, not the players. When he decided it was time to go, he stood up, the team stood up (you could hear a pin drop, everybody was like WTF), one of the seniors gave thankyou remarks and then Coach. They headed out the door by seniority just like they came in. All I'm saying is DC isn't #1 by accident. Its' been fostered and nurtured for a long time. You can take it for granted if you want to, but that's a bad business model.

OSA, I agree with you about DC-area residents actually coming to the games at Howard (and Morgan State). I just know of sooooooo many who went to DC when we played the Bison, and when they got back to Greensboro or Charlotte they tell me that they never had any intentions of actually attending the game.
The same thing happens here with FAMUans. They flock to Atlanta (over Miami or anywhere else) like we go to DC, and probably 70% of them never even see the stadium.
