I wear a lot of A&T gear here and I have three A&T car flags that I rotate and fly almost every day. Most of the comments I get come from local high school and college kids.
Last Saturday, I was in Academy Sports with an Aggies shirt. A young female asked me if I'm an A&T grad. She said that she wanted to go to A&T out of high school but her parents told her that it was too far away from home. (That's a comment that I've heard on several occasions here.)
But there are a healthy number of Aggies living in Tallahassee, so it's not like A&T is unknown around here. Why are there so many Aggies there? Seems like a random city for east cost kids to migrate to. When I first came to work at FAMU (straight out of A&T) in 1981, there were 13 Aggies working here on campus. One was James Barrett, who was Director of Auxiliary Services. Others were professors and people in their university business office. Currently, one of their top attorneys is an Aggie.
But aside from that, there are dozens of Aggies working in state government, city/county government and private industry in Tallahassee and in the Big Bend region in general. It's not a small, sleepy town anymore.
As SAAB said, Florida is loaded with Aggies.

I wore my 99-0 shirt to Home Depot a few weeks ago and ended up having a random conversation with two different customers about A&T football.
Both of them were over the age of 60 and Caucasian.

A kid saw me in my shirt and asked if I went to N-CAT. I was looking at Roland Martin Unfiltered last week and one of the panelists referred to us as N-CAT. She was talking about schools that have earned the right to get additional funding.

The university should get out front and be very clear about who we are and how we should be referenced and let our new students know too. N-Cat is just plain DUMB. The only acceptable forms of referring to our 130 year old institution should be: 1. North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University 2. North Carolina A&T State University 3. A&T (Ayantee) 4. T (and you really got to be intimately familiar with the institution to get away with this abbreviation...lol). N-cat takes the TEE out of our name and sounds more like a medical procedure. I don't know why this irks me soooo much but it does. LOL.

That's dumb and they need to be told its dumb. LOL. I guarantee you it started from students who are NOT from NC. Students from the region know better and know good and well they ain't NEVER heard anybody in their family or circle of friends refer to us as no damn N-Cat. Makes my blood boil just to say that. LMAO.

The Administration is part of the problem. I was listening in on a Zoom live new student welcoming call last week. A good idea by the why. The Admissions Director (I think) must of said NCAT 15 times for the 10 minutes I tuned in. The NCAT moniker just doesn't work for me, and think it irks me more to hear it. I know, "Get off my grass!".

I agree wholeheartedly Freeze. It's AYANTEE... that's it! There is only ONE A&T in the world. Don't lose our brand by yielding to some damn millennials who want to pop up and change our name because they weren't familiar with our traditions and our moniker and only knew A&T from seeing "www.ncat.edu". We are NOT N-cat....we are AYANTEE dammit and always will be. PERIOD.

The kid was in HS and a worker at Publix. So, I smiled when she said it although I rolled my eyes on the inside.

I expect there were some who didn't like when "T" came about. Probably said "It's A&T, dammit!"
