I cannot lie...after all the upsets over the weekend and after our team's 1st quarter, I thought surely we were primed for the upset. But, nonetheless, the Ladies still made us proud.

"extremely" proud of our ladies for going "toe to toe" with a top 3 ranked team in march madness!! of course i didn't watch the game until 2 or 3 hours after the game was over but i didn't know the outcome, so it was like watching it live.
as excited as i was with our ladies in the 1st half, in the back of my mind i knew the "true test" would be in the 2nd half when nc state's depth starts to take a toll on our top rotation. even when we took the lead by 4 or 5 points, i was very composed because i knew we still had an entire half of basketball to play.
i think we wore down in the 2nd half, the shots that were falling for us in the 1st half stopped falling for us in the 2nd half. but coach rob did an excellent job preparing our ladies for this game and i couldn't possibly be more proud of them. it'll be interesting to see if any of our seniors will return next season, especially since chaniya clark joins the team next season...

This was a very winnable game. Listening to the commentators talking our ranked defense was the point of emphasis. We should have applied more pressure along the side lines when we took the lead with a mental edge. We should have kept running hitting the threes. We did not seize the time nor grasp the reality of pulling off an upset. the giant for state should have been challenge more than she was. If the ladies could have been more aggressive they would have won the game. Still I am happy for these young ladies Champions.

"usually" what happens in games like this is that the power 5 teams "wear down" the smaller schools who don't have as much "depth" as the top teams. that's why things tend to come apart in the 2nd half.
"typically", most top 10 teams have 3 or 4 players on their bench who are just as talented as our starters. conversely, most low major teams such as hbcu's cannot bring in 3 or 4 players off their bench who can sustain the same level of play as their starters.
for example, we had 3 of our starters who played 30 minutes or more against nc state, nc state only had 1 starter who played 30 minutes or more against us. chanin scott played almost the entire game (36 minutes) which means she didn't get very much relief during that game to rest her legs to keep her fresh in the 2nd half. that's probably why the outside shots that we were making in the 1st half wouldn't fall for us in the 2nd half...

In this type game we should have applied pressure and played to strength rather than letting them back into the game. We could have won this game which is why we need a new women's basketball coach. No need to make excuses for coach but respect for those young ladies.

The next tallest player we brought in was 5'11 to defend her, therefore we had to double team each time she touched the ball leaving open a three point shooter. If we had another big to defend her one on one we would have had a better shot at beating them. Furthermore once our big left the game the lane was open, we had no shot blocker in the middle.

Also, in today's high major women's game you have to have multiple players that can hit the three ball consistently. We had one, and unfortunately State figured out how to shut her down.

.....and that's why I said a week ago They played as well as they could. Coach Rob clearly had them prepared. We lost to one of the best power 5 teams there is... The main things we must continue to do: 1) Continue to up the ante in recruiting 2) Have more than one option with respect to who can shoot a 33) Schedule and beat mid/high majors to avoid a 16 seed. I've been watching a lot of the women's basketball tourney. The one thing I've noticed with the better teams is that they have SUPERIOR HEIGHT and have more than one person who can shoot the 3. It's gonna take some time. Look, A&T is either gonna have to luck up into some players or our basketball reputation continues to rise to where we get such players, either from high school or as a transfer. I've had problems with Coach Rob before.....but the last 2 times we've played in the Big Dance, OUR TEAMS WERE PREPARED. We didn't look like a 16-seed for the entire game vs NC State, but that's the seed we got. The only concern I have is how many more cracks in the Big Dance will Coach Rob get while in the Big South versus the MEAC? There are going to be better programs we routinely go against.....the law of averages tells us that getting back to the Big Dance will be fewer when we're in the Big South. I hope to be proven wrong, but better competition in a league that is still a one-bid league limits Big Dance opportunities for our program.

I forgot about that too, did she even make one three? She actually did not make a FG at all. She was 0-9 from the field.

It looks like we missed on the two post players that came in this year which means we will have only a freshman big next year.Recruiting is like the NFL draft, when you miss on a first rounder your talent level slips.I hope we have some shooters coming in.
