Newman from Clemson just declared for UNCG. I believe our best bet will be hitting junior college ranks to fill the immediate needs at center and point guard.
Some really excellent JUCO players are being seriously overlooked this year because of all the madness with the portal. They are there ready for the taking if the mid majors will pay attention and do the necessary homework.

I'm always an optimist, in most instances, however, I have to say that the fact we haven't landed anyone out of that Transfer Portal at this point leaves me very disappointed.

We have how many players in the transfer portal? NCAA Basketball Scholarships Limits Men's programs are restricted to 13 scholarships while women's program rosters have 15 full scholarship players. We have 5 players in the transfer portal (Greer, Q. Jones, T. Jones, Maddox, Parker) and Kam's in limbo. That could be 6 players leaving with 3 enrollees replacing them. Now we potentially had 5 walk-on players, including Webster Filmore, according to Verbal Commits. If so, we still may not have space, if we give all of the walk-ons scholarships. However, if we don't, we should have up to 3 spots to fill. Me thinks we'll really have 2 as Webster Fillmore earned his scholarship if he wasn't one already. |

Also, is it safe to assume Ty Lyons won't be on the team this Fall? If so, that's 3-4 spots open potentially.

Just my opinion but I think most of the underclassmen who have jumped in to the portal are looking to see if they can either move up to a Power 5 or high mid major program or they see themselves as the odd man out on a team deep at their position. For a lot of these grad transfers its probably about getting on the court in a major way somewhere else after perhaps overcoming injury laden career, tired of being buried in the depth chart at their position, or in a few cases for academic reasons.
I wouldn't lament too much over not making a big news splash over grabbing a "name" portal guy. I think its far more important to find the right components that are going to make us a more formidable team next season especially down in the paint and a go to guy out on the wing at the perimeter. If we can find a reliable point guard (assuming Langley does not return), I believe we're probably 2 key players away from being just a good team and becoming a very scary one that can be a legit top contender for the Big South Title in year one.
