Darrell Allison Named Fayetteville State Chancellor
By Jarrett Carter Sr.The University of North Carolina System Board of Governors has named Darrell Allison, a former board member, as chancellor of Fayetteville State University. He will assume leadership of the school in March. An alumnus and former trustee of North Carolina Central University, Allison currently serves as vice president of governmental affairs and state teams at the American Federation for Children and is credited for work in advocating for Black colleges and other minority serving institutions throughout the state while serving on the board between 2017 and 2020, before stepping down. “Darrell Allison is a creative leader who understands the value of Fayetteville State University to the community, the region, and the state,” UNC System President Peter Hans said. “He brings with him a proven track record for student advocacy and a reputation for fostering partnerships that can further this university’s strategic goals. Through his leadership of the Racial Equity Task Force, he was a powerful voice in advancing critical issues of equity, and I know he will help us continue to push forward on this priority.” According to a release, Allison was the inaugural chair of the Historically Minority-Serving Institutions (HMSI) Committee, helping to lead a campaign for state legislature to appropriate $2 million for repairs and renovations – an investment that especially supported the system’s smaller universities. Allison advocated for a multi-million dollar upgrade for fundraising software and data management for the universities, which ushered in cost savings and strengthened fundraising programs. Trouble might have been too strong of a word.
I dont know if his previous experience prepares him for the job at hand. This appears to be his first rodeo working in higher education.

How did Silent Sam help him get the job? Let me find the tweets from our buddy John Newsom. The UNC BOG screwed up the hiring process for System Chancellors, BIG TIME!

When Chancellor Martin does retire, we better be prepared to fight during the hiring process tooth and nail.

There’s an online petition:
Removal of the Newly Appointed Fayetteville State University Chancellor 304 have signed. Let’s get to 500!
FSU Concerned Alumni FSU Concerned Alumni signed this petition
Fayetteville State University Concerned Alumni started this petition to Representative Alma Adams and 4 others
The UNC Board of Governors appointed the former UNC Board of Governors President Darrell Allison as the new Chancellor of Fayetteville State University on Friday, February 19, 2021. Darrell Allison was not one of the top six finalists for the position and was added to the list at the last minute. The Chairman of the Board of Trustees expressed that Darrell Allison was a unanimous pick, which is quite the contrary per witnesses, insiders, statements, and the facts. Darrell Allison resigned from his position as the President of the UNC Board of Governors in September 2020, knowing that he was assured and guaranteed to become the New Chancellor of Fayetteville State University. Equally in question is the watering down of requirements of the position as well as the change in appointment procedure by the UNC Board of Governors. The selection process was fraudulent, dishonest, biased, flawed and cheated from the beginning. Unethical maneuvers allowed Darrell Allison the pathway to become a candidate for the position in the first place. In addition, we believe that it was also Allison’s ties to his Mother-in-law and his Godmother who both serve on the FSU Board of Trustees that also proved favorable to his appointment as Fayetteville State University’s Twelfth Chancellor. Darrell Allison, without one day of experience in teaching, serving as a Dean, being a provost, or any other capacity building or training in Higher Education, is given the responsibility of educating students and leading them in an Academic Institution of Higher Learning. Allison lacks the Education, Knowledge and Experience that one is assumed to have before becoming the CEO of an institution. Darrell Allison additionally has a history of scandals involving Financial Mismanagement, Tampering with Leadership and Steering Vendor Contracts.

The Republican Party in NC positioned the UNC-System to be filled with Conservative, Golden-Parachute Chancellors. We better hope and pray Chancellor doesn't retire until this system is fixed.

Is Darrell Allison a conservative? Yes, he was one of the BOG's who sided with keeping of the Silent Sam statue at Chapel Hill. He is a favorite at the System Office, and is well connected which is not a bad thing if he uses his powers to benefit the university. I know this because I used to work @ FSU and GA (now System Office) and still have a lot of ties there. There is also a lot of misinformation going around about him not being a finalist. What I've been told is that one finalist dropped out and opened the door for Allison to added to the group, as the finalist chosen were not the best candidates as you would have hoped for. A lot of this whether you believe it or not stems from some bad hires at other universities such as ECU who has had 3 different Chancellors all within 3-4 years, and their Alumni are livid. The system office is going with a new approach to hiring Chancellors, as the ones from academia recently have not been the most successful, especially in the financial department. Time will tell how Allison will lead FSU since he comes from the corporate arena, because believe it when I tell you, there is no petition out there that will prevent him from taking over since the BOGs signed off.
