I'm more concerned about the 15 or so black kids that are no longer going to get any money for school because they want more "perks" for the football team. Another example of why I dont like Clemson. Why not reduce tennis, golf or soccer. Because its primarily white, thats why. Or why not just say, "Our football program covers enough for everyone to keep track going. We being petty and greedy right now" they are still honoring all schollys and access to training and facilities for anyone that wants to remain enrolled

I thought the article indicated 17 of the 25 athletes were seniors thus there wouldn't be many to get to upgrade throwing/ field events or distance. Also, to go after the national championship , you must have national quality ( can score at the NCAAs) athletes ... Not sure that is what Clemson has. Finally, some of their guys are not black, thus we would have to have a breakthrough . Not that there have not been white track athletes at NCAT, but none have had enough talent to be successful beyond the MEAC. Not saying you are not right about the holes which need filling , just not sure that is what we would be getting from Clemson Those are fair points...

Clemson has a number of throwers that could have A&T Roje Stona, threw the No. 5 mark in program history at the ACC Indoor Championships , Veronica Fraley over 16.10 represented the US in the under-20 world championships they both hit the qualifying marks for the NCAA championships represent in Clemson as Stona was named a All-American . They have a number of Wt throws that are underclassman/women in all the throwing events . They have and exceptional male and female Javelin throwers that are underclassmen . The problem I see with A&T is do we have the coaches/coach that can coach whose events outside of the Jumps and pole vault especially in the javelin . They have a few that can help plug holes in our Wt's and throwing events the problem is to get there first and pick the right one are ones . I knew that it was a matter of time before Clemson either made cuts to there T&F program because they haven't performed at an elite level for a long time with the exception of a few athletes here in there .

Fraley's mother is an Aggie and was there in the 80's when I was there.

Are they dropping women's track as well? I was only speaking about men. Stona is the real deal...but not the others. The roster I am looking at indicates they are mostly freshman and the javelin guys appear to be white and their performances in the bio (one guy did finish 3rd ACC But 33rd in NCAA Regional) are not overly impressive. The soph shot-put guy Campbell finished 11th in ACC. That might win in MEAC/BS but we were looking at Transfers that would help win a national championship ( which Stona would do ) but the others do not appear to be in that class..... just my assessment of their Men's roster...who are you speaking of other than Stona?

DANIELLE SLOLEY 15.99 meters (52-5.5) in the 3kg shot put, 14.38 meters (47-2.25) in the shot put, 41.92 meters (137-6) in the discus, and 37.54 meters (123-2) in the 500g javelin. RILEY LAIR 11.41 meters (37-5.25) in the shot put and 30.47meters (99-11.5) in the discus. GRACE HANRATTY 2:12.33 in the 800 meters, 5:08.98 in the 1600 meters and 11:58.26 in the 3200 meters JOHN-ERIK DRWAL shot put personal best of 12.03 meters (39-5.75) and a personal-best mark of 54 meters (177-2) in the 800g javelin. Anthony Hamilton 6'10" 1/2 high jump Danielle Sloley throws Zico Campbell Throws . It's amazing how many underclassmen that they have . Only the men's T&F and CC will be affected.

Went to TFRRS to see if these athletes are exceptional. I did NOT look at the women because Clemson is not dropping that program. As for the men you mentioned. They would be very good in the MEAC/BS but I thought we were looking for MALE athletes who would help you get to a National Championship. None of the men mentioned meet that criteria. Hamilton has never been ranked in the top 24 in east regional nor was Campbell . Drawl would probably win the MEAC with a javelin throw of 177" but that was not in the top 95 in 2019 ( last year with outdoor data) ... Don't get me wrong, they would get points in the Big South or MEAC but they are not going to help us in Oregon ... Except for Stona

The other question is what is our strategy for field events, period? It seems as if coach is trying to build sprints, middle distance and jumps to some extent. It seems the other field events are targeted to help win conference championships to make sure we get points in every event not to bolster national championship run. It is possible to win a national championship with just those categories. Conference championships are important hardware to collect also and you don't need top 25 performances for field events. You can win with top 100 rankings in the field events.

Recruiting Field event Wt and javelin throwers that are exceptional are the hardest T&F athletes to find especially with a lot of your Wt men opting out for football . NOB is right most of the Elite one are locked in to a program already or developed with proper training and coaching. Levelland Junior College , Barton County usually have good weight drawers and distance runners in the Juco level . Now looking overseas especially in Europe for throwers where there are and abundance would be a logical idea but this pandemic makes that impossible right now . But if A&T has the right coach all things are possible. If they are MEAC good and they can win the MEAC it could give them the drive to push for the Nationals. A good example was the young man that won the long jump last year from and HBCU. Anything is possible.

I think the Long jumper (from Ala State Jamie Brown) finished 6th in the NCAA...Harrison of LSU was first but I get your point... but with the throwers in question, they are too far from the leaders to expect that much improvement (as I see it). Maxwell is on point regarding throwers needed to take the pressure off the sprinters in winning Conference championships. I am not sure who in the BS has the best field event athletes, my guess would be High Point

Campbell had the highest consistent field event athletes with High Point dominating the Heptathlon .
