Soooo if A&T wins the FCS national Championship we wouldn't be the HBCU national champs too? The Celebration Bowl Champ would be the HBCU national champion? the #1 HBCU football team out of all the HBCU football playing institutions?

Regardless of if A&T is ranked No. 1 in the entire nation, the MEAC and SWAC are both obligated to recognize the Celebration Bowl winner as THEIR HBCU National Champion. This is what I was trying to explain to the FAMU idiots last year. That is what, in part, made having the Celebration Bowl an attractive venture to Disney in the first place. It would be their way of unifying the HBCU belts (and thus strengthen the marketing power of the event). That is why Jay Walker took such umbrage to FAMU awarding themselves a title because it diminished the value of the CB title brand. However, if the Celebration Bowl eventually comes to an end, then all bets are off I assume. Remember, the HBCU National Champion is just a mythical title. The only thing that gives that title legitimacy are the people who vote for it and the people who accept those votes as gospel. This is correct. Hence Tenn State was voted as HBCU champs in 2013.

Folks when we left the MEAC for the Big South A&T became the next versions of TSU and Hampton.
Lord knows I hope that we have a better performance in league play, but moving forward as it relates to HBCU sports we are now on the outside looking in...it’s the schools in the HBCU conferences and the others.
We are now a part of the others.
TSU and Hampton couldn’t have their cake and eat it too and neither can we.
Having a few HBCUs on our schedule every year ain’t gonna do it.
If you want to see our schedule in the near future look at the example TSU has set.
They try to schedule OOC games with other HBCUs where they can but this is their reality and we will have something similar.

Tennessee State won a HBCU National Title under Rod Reed in the 2010s most recently + won in the playoffs.
So the answer to the thread title is yep.

I agree.
And I think it wouldn't have been an issue if we hadn't choked again and lost to Morgan AND FAMU.
I'm all about taking care of our own house first.
I figure the highest ranked HBCU at the end of the year = the national champion. If we continue winning at our current levels (not a given by any stretch) then more often than not that'll be us just by virtue of our schedule.

Let's be honest: if winning the MYTHICAL HBCU national championship was our primary goal, we would have stayed in the MEAC or tried to form some type of competitive agreement with the SWAC (a la Notre Dame and the ACC).
Our focus now is competing for FCS National Titles and (maybe) positioning ourselves for a eventually move up to the FBS ranks.
We have won 4 of the past 5 HBCU National Titles. Obviously that accomplishment was not enough for our leadership to want to remain stagnant.

It's a long-term goal for our current Chancellor and Board of Trustees. They also, along with our current AD, have goals of reducing the percentage of Auxiliary Services money going to Athletics - approx. 25% of the Athletic Budget or less yearly - and reducing student fees long-term.

This is correct. Hence Tenn State was voted as HBCU champs in 2013. yeah but there was no celebration bowl in 2013... The Celebration Bowl does not solely determine an hbcu champion. It is an agreed upon championship created by espn events between the MEAC and SWAC. No other hbcu conferences are obligated to recognize the winner as hbcu champs. Other schools can be named hbcu champs by other polls.
