"In today's world, there are no easy decisions anymore, everything is a long, planned out decision," said Towson head coach Rob Ambrose. "The first thing we did is we took a step back once we knew there was going to be a plan for this, and we asked the players, and we listened. It is amazing how aware, broad-minded, forward-thinking and how intelligent our student-athletes really are. We surveyed the guys, more than 75% of the team did not want to trade a full season next year for a six-game season this spring. After listening to the players, I could not come up with a good reason on why we should do this." "With football being a high-contact sport, the student-athletes and coaches agree that potentially sacrificing a normal fall season for a shortened spring year is not the safest course of action," said Towson University director of athletics Tim Leonard. "We support our student-athletes and coaches in this decision, and we look forward to a return to the field for the 2021 season."

Oh boy, I dont like where this is leading. Schools are placing player safety first... The MEAC and SWAC should cancel their seasons too...if HBCUs really cared about their black athletes they would follow Towson's lead.

I agree, no point in playing if you have a extra year of eligibility for everyone. Get ready for the Big South next Fall.

It was the Ivy League who said 'no' first to March Madness.
It was the Ivy League who said 'no' first to fall football.
We all know how what happened after those decisions.
To me, spring football isn't just a pandemic decision. It's becoming clear that there isn't sufficient time for physical recovery between the end of the spring season and the beginning of the fall season.
'Thrilla, what's your doctor's name at Duke? Maybe we should ask him/her...

Hampton University cancels football and most other sports for springHampton University’s football team won’t kick off until at least the fall of 2021, and most other sports also have been suspended for spring competition, the school announced Friday. Athletic director Eugene Marshall Jr. said in a release that football, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field, co-ed sailing, softball, volleyball, men’s and women’s tennis, women’s triathlon and men’s lacrosse will not play in the spring. Men’s and women’s basketball, though, will play a modified schedule to be released at a later date. HU previously announced that no on-campus classes would be held in the spring. “This decision was not taken lightly, but it was in concert with the announcement from the University to continue with virtual instruction for the spring 2021 semester,” Marshall said in a release. “I would like to thank our student-athletes for their hard work, dedication and commitment, both academically and athletically while they’re away from campus. I look forward to seeing them again soon because we truly miss them." The release said basketball can be played “due to the fact that both programs are self-contained and compete outside of the campus footprint. No fans will be present at any home contests.” Hampton is the first Big South Conference school to announce the suspension of multiple sports in the spring, although the coronavirus pandemic has scuttled college sports across the country and in Hampton Roads. Old Dominion has announced that the Monarchs will not play football until the fall of 2021, although ODU’s other sports plan to restart with spring seasons.
