Good Article Aggie Rattler. Notice the bottom line is MONEY as stated in this article. Can't see why "some" people can't comprehend this. Very obvious.

ya'll do realize that that article is only a journalist's "opinion", correct? not a doctor, not a scientist, not even a "nurse". in fact, its the "opinion" of a journalist who has "ZERO" experience in medicine.
some of you folk are so laughable. you rather trust the "opinion" of a journalist who has "ZERO" background or degrees in medicine or science, but instead her degrees are in "journalism", not medicine or science. yet, she knows better than a "doctor"? omg...

Dr. Wolfe disagrees. I wonder why the author didn't include him in this article. Especially since Dr. Wolfe works right there at Duke. One could also say "why didn't Dr. Wolfe include her in his article' just saying .

Point taken regarding the article. It is in fact a op-ed article. Staying on your post, though, we listen to the doctors and scientists and each one of us still comes away with a differing opinions on what should happen related to playing football this fall, right? And that is perfectly okay, right?

You do realize that any doctor, scientist,or even a nurse that says "college football can be played safely" is only giving their "opinion" also , simply because not one college team has even played one down of football during these pandemic conditions . As a matter of fact "my opinion" has just as much weight as any doctor ,scientist ,or nurse . See the way science works is ,you have to do research ,write up your findings ,then publish your findings ,and other research people then perform the same test, under the same criteria and if they come to the same conclusion ,then it becomes "fact". So since no one has done the research ,because no one has actually played football ,no doctor, scientist ,nurse ,you,me or anybody can say with any degree of certainty what can be done during this pandemic . In my opinion no amateur athlete ,high school ,or college should put their health at risk simply for the entertainment of others .The pros are a different story because ,at least they are getting compensated handsomely for taking that risk .

anybody (including you and me) can "cherry pick" quotes from doctors that support our opinion. that's what she did, that's what "45" did too...

In my opinion no amateur athlete ,high school ,or college should put their health at risk simply for the entertainment of others .The pros are a different story because ,at least they are getting compensated handsomely for taking that risk . and my "opinion" is that the nba, wnba, mls, nhl, and mlb have provided in effect a "case study" that says that competitive sports can take place "more safely" relative to covid-19 than it is for you and me to walk the streets in the "general public" and that's a "FACT", not only my opinion. now, why is that a "FACT"? because none of those leagues have a covid-19 positive test rate that's higher than the general public. in fact, those leagues have a covid-19 positive test rate that's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay BELOW the national average, much less states like texas or florida that have positive test rates that are as high as 20%. so if those leagues can "prevent" a league wide spread of covid and keep positive test rates waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay below that of the general public, then why "rule out" the possibility that colleges who have adequate resources can do the same? sure, we may not yet know for sure if well funded colleges can adequately contain covid-19, but the nba, wnba, mls, nhl, and mlb have provided 5 different "real life" blueprints that says it is possible. nfl camps are already open, there has not been any so called "outbreaks" there either...

We won't know until they play. Has any schools practiced in pads yet? P5 schools could have fully shielded helmets, breathable masks, hand sanitizers and hand washing stations on the sidelines, saliva testing, etc. on the field. The bigger question is will schools actually follow the protocols.
The sad part is if they stratified COVID deaths by income (which they won't), you will find that if you have the money to keep healthy and protected, the bad consequences of COVID are more likely to stay away from you. The folks that die are disproportionately poorer.
There's a moral component, an economic component and a political component that in our society supercedes the science. If you morally believe that any risk is too much risk, the money doesn't matter. If you have to take risks because of economics then you do, whether it be for necessity or profit. Essential workers are doing it, teachers are doing it, businesses are doing it, colleges are doing it, and sports teams are doing it.
We've made a moral decision not to play fall sports, but also we've complied with a political and economic decision by the state to offer parents the option to send their kids to campus or learn online.
The decision is way more complicated than we make it in this forum. But know that there are "very fine people on both sides". LOL

OSA says this journalist is not a doctor, scientist, nurse and that they are only a journalist, so we should not trust their opinion
That is what I have been trying to tell him for a few weeks. OSA, you ain't either and your opinion is like butt holes, everybody got one.
