No Football Will Cost Bethune-Cookman ‘Millions’College AD Nightcap July 27, 2020
>For Lynn Thompson, B-CU’s Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics, the MEAC’s announcement 10 days ago to suspend the fall season didn’t come as a surprise. It also didn’t come without severe financial consequences.
>“I can tell you, we stand to lose a couple million dollars,” Thompson said of not having a football season. “That’s being conservative. And those millions of dollars that we could lose, the institution certainly needs to have. Quite frankly, we have to find ways to make up for that.”
>“We aren’t leveraged like a lot of the other programs,” he added. “While it will hurt us financially, I don’t think the impact is as devastating to us as some of the programs that stand to lose $100-200 million. I think most of our supporters will understand that, really, the battle cry now is not to be a consumer, but be an investor in the program.
>“But yes, the loss of those guaranteed games is significant to us. Very significant.”
