A&T will continue to grow regardless of athletic conference if scholarship opportunities continue to grow. I believe our academic reputation with companies, the state and high schools are more important than our conference. www.ncat.edu/news/2020/07/nursing-hrsa.phpN.C. A&T will receive $650,000 per year for 5 years through the HRSA funding secured by Lenora Campbell, Ph.D., dean of the College of Health and Human Sciences. The money comes from HRSA’s Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students program, which is designed to increase the number, ethnic diversity and distribution of nurses to remediate the state of North Carolina’s shortage of diverse healthcare providers. The award is expected to provide full scholarships to 25 eligible full-time juniors and seniors in the School of Nursing. An endowment of $13M equals a payment of $650K annually in scholarships...this a big gift.

An endowment of $13M equals a payment of $650K annually in scholarships...this a big gift. This is an excellent gift. But the awarding of scholarships to 25 juniors and seniors in nursing won't translate to a massive campus wide increase in applications or enrollment. Our programs didn't magically or drastically improve in the last five years as we became the largest HBCU in the country. Our marketing and visibility increased - and therefore so did our national popularity. Exponentially I might add. And by all accounts, our administrators accredited our bump in enrollment to this phenomenon which paralleled our almost annual inclusion in the Celebration Bowl over the last 5 years. Don't get me wrong. Like you I believe our academic reputation will continue on its upward trajectory and I hope our scholarship opportunities will also continue to grow. But the Celebration Bowl essentially gave us a 2.5 to 3 hour long commercial to expose A&T to millions of people across the country on network television...and that paid major dividends for us. Again...let's not act like it did not. I strongly suspect that it will have major benefits for whatever school gets the invitation next. Especially if they can get on a hot streak like we did and go multiple times. Are the first round games of the playoffs even televised? I forget. Losing a shot at the Celebration Bowl robs us of a national platform and that type of priceless exposure wont be replaced by a first or second round game in the playoffs. And that's a hard truth that we have to accept. The only equivalent will be our ability to make a DEEP push into the playoffs which hopefully ends up with an appearance in the title game. And that is an incredibly arduous (but not impossible) journey.

And by the way, our academic reputation has been strong for years. There's a reason we are the flagship HBCU school in NC and annually considered one of the top public HBCUs in the country. We were always one of the largest Black colleges, but our meteoric rise to the top only happened when our national exposure increased....which happened with our annual Celebration Bowl appearances. This is indisputable and as mentioned several times on this board, even our own administration readily acknowledges the impact this game had on our increase in national popularity among potential students AND student athletes.

And that is an incredibly arduous (but not impossible) journey. This program did become relevant in the last 5 years...the nursing program was almost shut down due to low passing rate. A&T academic profile has grown over the last 5 years and so has the amount of money available to attract and retain talented students. One can not make a true assessment of the impact of the celebration bowl on enrollment without looking at all the contributing factors. Money available for scholarships is a major factor and to deny that point or belittle it is a major disservice. Contrary to popular belief our academic programs, facilities and scholarships are what gets kids to attend A&T...celebration bowl get them to do a google search. Just like buying a house the price gets people to look at the house but whats inside gets people enter the house, buy it and love it forever. Celebration bowl increases awareness of all HBCUs but once a google search is done kids and parents see the #1 HBCU is NC A&T...due to academics, facilities, GHOE, salary, scholarships thus the reason why they decide to attend. Alcorn has been in 4/5 Celebration Bowls and this has been their enrollment 2012 Fall 4512 2013 Fall 4536 2014 Fall 3639 2015 Fall 3518 2016 Fall 3420 2017 Fall 3716 2018 Fall 3658 2019 Fall 3523 Why hasn't Alcorn enrollment ballooned?

Alcorn didn't have the advantage of being celebrated for much of anything prior to the Celebration Bowl. Plus, its located in Lorman, Mississippi. Have you ever been to Lorman, Mississippi? A&T of course is well situated on the East Coast in the third largest city in the state and prior to the Celebration Bowl, A&T was already well known for its STEM majors as well as its Business Department. But these are points I already made....the Celebration Bowl took what was already a good thing (us) and advertised us to the country. And I disagree...while the Celebration Bowl does discuss the legacy of other HBCUs, it cannot be disputed that it is our institution, our programs, our colors, our band, our fans that are on FULL national display...and we looked good. But you don't have to take my word for it. This is from the News and Record Article that discussed it in 2019: In that same article even Coach Washington discussed the incredible benefits that we received from this exposure. And the trickle down effect that it has had on our ENTIRE university is undeniable. A&T is a strong institution. We always have been. Some of our programs such as nursing have ebbed and flowed over the years and its great to see that nursing is in a strong position now. They made some important changes to the leadership of that department and it has paid huge dividends. However, my entire point about all of this is that moving to the BS conference will only provide us with a major national platform to expose our institution to the country if we make a very deep run in the playoffs. It can provide a huge payoff/reward if we do, but it also will come with some very important risks. How will OUR fans adjust to the radical change of playing a full compliment of other HBCUs to possibly only playing two or three a year? Fans and alumni are MAJOR stakeholders in the success and growth of a program. You are asking for the fanbase to make a HUGE buy-in here. Additionally, for a school that has often struggled breaking into the national branding conversation like Grambling, FAM, Southern, Howard and Spel-House have been able to do, losing the opportunity to showcase our institution on a national stage every December could decrease our exposure and lessen the spotlight that we have enjoyed in the last few years. I hope that our move to the BS pays off...I am also deeply concerned that it won't.

"Why hasn't Alcorn enrollment ballooned" first you would have to consider Alcorns location is mostly in a rural farming region. There are no major interstate highways with most major cities being some distance away that is the main reason Alcorns enrollment has not shown a significant increase or decline. So when making comparison you also have to take in a institutions geographical and Regional location. A&T has a primo location with two major interstates highways I-85 & I-95 . A&T is also located in a more progressive Diverse Urban location night life which is appealing to a wide variety of students. So that alone is an atracking point for enrollment growth something Alcorn does not have. So it is a big difference between the two.

I googled afterwards. Pretty cool. I'ma ask my cousin and uncle about it. They're masons but never shared much. Us old school fraternity Brothers stay more firmly to the code not so much of secrecy but of discipline and actions . But if you ask to be informed about the Craft we are obligated to share information to point. Contrary to what people believe the Craft does not recruit but " ask and it shall be given to you , seek and you shall find , knock and it shall be opened unto you Matthew 7:7-8 .The Book of Ruth would be a good starting point to discuss with your Male relative's and even more so with your female Eastern Star family members. Set down and let her plug you into her "Five Fold Cord OF Love" .

Set down and let her plug you into her "Five Fold Cord OF Love" . For some reason, that just don't sound right lol. No Eastern Stars in the family, just a couple Masons. I'm considering the title of this thread. I don't think we lose a position in the hbcu niche by switching to a pwi conference. In the grand scheme of things it's honestly pretty minor. If anything, if we can consistently be in the top half of a pwi conference we've elevated the hbcu niche.
