Nah, according to him, there is not even a fire right now to blow out.

Cookman is out and DSU is openly looking at the NEC. What happens if there are only 5 football playing teams...does the MEAC loose it’s FCS designation? I hate to see this happen to one of the first HBCU D1 conferences, a conference I have followed since being a ball boy at Central in the the early 70’s. Not to pile it on but without visionary leadership it’s difficult to stay relevant in anything. This is sad.

Everyone is pulling out that Red Folder in the back of the file cabinet...it would actually make sense now for Del state, Central, Steat etc. to stay put seeing as how travel is now reduced with the MEAC South getting gutted (Dover to Orangeburg). I hope this is not the end of the MEAC but if The hornets are out, all bets are off

According to Dennis Thomas if they reduce football schools below seven the MEAC maybe subject to lose there Division 1 status This was said prior to BCU leaving:

Now the conference is below 7, is there a chance that the meac reclassified to d2?

I COULD BE WRONG, but I believe that you have to have six (6) football-playing members to have an automatic berth into the FCS Playoffs. This came up publicly a few years ago when it looked like the Big South Conference was going to lose their AQ by dropping down to 5 football-playing schools. Y'all remember that??
Based on that, I would believe that six (6) would be the minimum number of schools in a conference to remain in Division I.

After looking at the NCAA requirement, the MEAC wouldn't lose its FCS classification altogether if it indeed falls to just 5 football playing schools but it would lose any chance for a AQ spot to the playoffs and quite frankly it would most likely mean the end of the Celebration Bowl, or at the very least in its current format of the SWAC vs the MEAC champions. It would also leave the remaining members in the almost no-win situation of trying to secure an at-large playoff bid for its champion.
Essentially everyone left would be treated like an independent.

Somebody check on oldschoolaggie, I know this has to be rough on him. It's kind've disheartening to watch but change was needed. Were there any better alternatives?
