He was right about how black folks benefit going to a HBCU yet they would rather send there child to play sports at a PWI. He said we need to change black people mindset. I agree with that. But that is a long term strategy and who to say it will even work. There should have been plans on how the MEAC is to become a viable conference. What steps are you going to take.

i think in a "back handed way", he was trying to draw an analogy. on the sly i think he's saying high profile black athletes should attend hbcu's instead of pwc's, as an analogy that hbcu's should be members of hbcu conferences instead of pwc conferences.
i personally have no opinion of thomas because i don't know enough about him to draw any conclusions. i know a lot of folk rag on him all the time, but i don't allow others to influence my opinion of other people. so i'm not gonna pile on the guy just because other folk do. nor will i speak highly of him because like i said, i don't know him well enough to do so...

Spoiler alert: Thomas offers no details whatsoever about his "strategy".

When I read this article last week, I was truly disappointed because the title of article clearly DID NOT DELIVER..... The commissioner has gotta do something. There's no way he cannot view these optics as horrendous. He's clearly looking like the captain of a sinking ship.....

It is sinking with 3 life jackets on board. If Bethune goes to the SWAC as predicted the MEAC will have few survivors in turbulent waters.

It’s great hearing up to date information and future strategic plans from your conference leadership without having to pull teeth. Big South Commissioner Update youtu.be/xLjrz2E-5ZU

Big South Commissioner Update youtu.be/xLjrz2E-5ZU180 degree difference I'm impressed the commissioner is talking about "diversity." Now I know "talking" and "doing" are not the same but at least he's talking openly about it.

There is a buzz about top tier athletes and athletes kids getting back to roots and elevating HBCUs . Thomas is just trying to ride that wave cause he got no plan. But all the above sounds good and draws and emotional response. Bottom line he looking for someone or a social wave to do his job for him !

What I like is that he addressed how conference will get after the diversity not just saying they need to do it. Stated they will implement a version of the Rooney rule and focus on education and open dialogue on diversity. Heck with the addition of A&T and RMU the conference will have 5 minority football coaches out of 9 schools. Furthermore with the addition of A&T 6/12 mens basketball coaches will be african american. It looks like they are walking the walk too on diversity.
