The Chancellor is doing a great job in navigating the NC political climate. When republicans champion our universities causes you know the A&T leadership team is doing something right. Like the Talladega College president and Dr Harvey, its important for our leaders to not let political beliefs interfere with whats best for the university. www.yesweekly.com/business/rep-jon-hardister-advances-legislation-to-provide-special-funding-for-nc-a-t-and-nc/article_244cf2d8-a8de-11ea-861f-ef6f5cc5fb4c.htmlWhitsett, NC - Yesterday the NC House passed HB 472 - NCSU/NC A&T Matching Funds/Umstead Act. This bill provides $2 million for NC State University's biopharmaceutical research program and $3 million for NC A&T University's agricultural research and extension programs. These state funds will draw matching dollars from the federal government. The bill also provides A&T with an Umstead Act exemption, which will allow the university to sell dairy products to the public. Proceeds from the sales would go towards supporting university operations. NC State already has a similar exemption. Public entities are typically banned from competing with private enterprise, thus necessitating the exemption. Rep. Jon Hardister (R-Guilford, Majority Whip) is the lead sponsor of the bill. Reps. Josh Dobson (R-McDowell), John Faircloth (R-Guilford) and Ashton Clemmons (D-Guilford) are also primary sponsors of the bill. The bill passed on a voice vote in the House and is now pending action in the Senate.

hopefully it will pass in the senate as well. don't know if they still do it, but way back in my undergrad days, the a&t farm provided milk and beef for our cafeteria. lol, as you'd expet, we had "plenty" of meat loaf every week on our menu...

Did I see correctly that former NCAT football player judge Merl Code gave the Alunmi Association $500K? In April 2020, Code met with the president of Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina, a board he has served on for more than 20 years, about giving back to North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. The foundation decided to donate $500,000 on Code’s behalf to North Carolina A&T with a designation to the National Alumni Scholarship Program.

Man, this is good news. We had the best Ice Cream in town back when I was in school in the late 60’s. We supplied milk and Ice Cream to the cafe and Sometimes we delivered Ice Cream to Scott Hall on our way back from the cafe.
I was a Dairy Manufacturing major and worked in the campus dairy which was in Ward Hall (now the campus Police Station) we supplied milk and ice cream to the cafe’s. I will definitely be purchasing ice cream if it’s anything like as good as when we made it years ago.

I think this is great as well. I keep thinking about the residual income that will come from the sale of ice cream and other items.

So I am confuse. This should had been done from day one. where was the profits going before this bill pass.
A&T did not just start making the dairy products yesterday.

My assumption. there were no profits. We were manufacturing products, using them within the university, but unable to sell them to the public. Generally speaking, a state entity cannot compete with the marketplace.
Appreciate the Legislators (most Republicans) who sponsored this bill.
If NC alumns would leverage their influence upon legislators on behalf of the university, we could receive additional benefits.
