Back to the original discussion... I think we are going to have a bit of a learning curve to figure out how to consistently win in the Big South. They rely on the interior game in that conference and they seemingly are able to recruit taller big men that can stretch the floor. Harry's development is paramount in addition to finding another stretch big man that can shoot the 3, rebound and protect the rim on defense while being nimble enough to guard a smaller and quicker guard on a pick and roll. If we adapt the physicality, we'll be fine. Our guys have to get bigger and stronger. Our front court has to put on a little bulk along with the muscle, which may not have been as much of a focus in the past. For example, Ty Lyons is 6'6" only 180 pounds. How much weight could he add comfortably? Michael Jordan played at about 6'6" 215 pounds. Obviously, Ty is senior but if we have freshmen come in with a similar build, we have to begin early with a nutrition program that allows his body to gain weight the good way over the 4 years. We haven't had that kind of focus on building mass before in basketball. i'm of the belief that you force other teams to adjust to our style of play, not the other way around. get stronger? yes. gain weight? no. "bulk" hurts a team who plays a "slow down" half court game like we used to play. but now we're an "uptempo" full court transition team. we play a "catch me if you can" game, not a wwe game. i wouldn't change my style to fit their style. instead, i'd impose my style on them and force them to adjust...

Presby is moving to d-2 so all their programs will have to move. Obviously completely out of my a$$ because it's totally incorrect on my part.

So, now that FAMU is moving to the SWAC, I would think now/soon would be a great time for NCCU to consider making the transition to the Big South. It just makes too much sense. Would love the mix of public nc schools with NC A&T, UNCA & NCCU. Not to mention Winthrop and Radford and the quality private schools in the conference. But there's nothing like a good public school rivalry like UNCA/WINTHROP and NC A&T/NCCU.

In all honesty, I'm hoping that the MEAC will hang onto both NCCU and Norfolk State...as well as South Carolina State. We will definitely be playing NCCU annually in non-conference games in just about all sports, certainly football, MBB and baseball.

If the MEAC can dump BCU then it becomes regionalized again and the other schools wont really have a reason to leave. As a long term goal they can start recruiting 1 or 2 CIAA schools again.
This was the most interesting line in the article to me "The league is scheduled to lose Presbyterian to the Pioneer League in 2021, while adding North Carolina A&T. The Colonials would make an uneven number of teams, but Pittsburgh Sports Now has learned that South Carolina State could be a candidate to also leave the MEAC and join the Big South, along with North Carolina A&T, in 2021."

I'm looking at this from a cultural standpoint. We here the notion that black people don't have anything of their own. Here we have a conference started by black institutions now being abandoned by them and being supported by a lot of black people. Just a thought!

I look at it this way. This country is ideally a melting pot. When we go to the Olympics, ideally we are cheering for Americans as opposed to certain ones based on color. Nobody should lose their identity because they move into a different neighborhood.
At the end of the day the survival of the black institutions is more important than the survival of the conference imo. That being typed, as I've stated before, people are acting like the MEAC is history even though it's still in existence last time I checked. It's important to not abandon the conference mentally first and foremost. That's when it dies.
I'd be all for SC Steat and NCCU joining the Big South. I think it would add balance and help Steat get their institution in order from the standpoint of a smaller conference footprint and fellow conference members located in-state.

.....I'm still hoping the Big South folds, with A&T crawling back into the MEAC, but bringing a few friends along with them (ie. Campbell, High Point, Hampton, Chas Southern).

That's an intriguing alternative (one that I was hoping for back when the BSC was on life-support)...but I still believe that both conferences will survive and thrive.

I'm not familiar with PGH Sports Now. " . . . Pittsburgh Sports Now has learned that South Carolina State could be a candidate to also leave the MEAC and join the Big South . . ." Really, what message board did he learn that from?
I don't see Robert Morris leaving the NEC, it seems to be the best fit. They would have to add or subtract sports to fit in the Big South or be in different conferences in multiple sports. They don't offer Men's Track, Baseball, or Tennis. They offer Women's Ice Hockey, Rowing. The Big South doesn't offer Men's Lacrosse.
What scenario would take place for the Big South to fold? The MEAC is quickly becoming a more likely candidate with the number of full athletic programs departing. If the current football only Big South schools leave tomorrow, I don't think that would cause the conference to fold. In fact, doesn't it only strip the AQ for the playoffs? There would still be 12 schools, including Us and Presbyterian participating in all other sports.
