Well, at least we are getting somewhere. You now acknowledge that your original statement was dead wrong:
That is the first step ....

Back to the original discussion...
I think we are going to have a bit of a learning curve to figure out how to consistently win in the Big South. They rely on the interior game in that conference and they seemingly are able to recruit taller big men that can stretch the floor. Harry's development is paramount in addition to finding another stretch big man that can shoot the 3, rebound and protect the rim on defense while being nimble enough to guard a smaller and quicker guard on a pick and roll.

If we adapt the physicality, we'll be fine. Our guys have to get bigger and stronger. Our front court has to put on a little bulk along with the muscle, which may not have been as much of a focus in the past. For example, Ty Lyons is 6'6" only 180 pounds. How much weight could he add comfortably? Michael Jordan played at about 6'6" 215 pounds. Obviously, Ty is senior but if we have freshmen come in with a similar build, we have to begin early with a nutrition program that allows his body to gain weight the good way over the 4 years. We haven't had that kind of focus on building mass before in basketball.

Didn't we play a Big South team in football and basketball? Isn't Lyons an upcoming junior? Don't we have a weight room? Coach just didn't have enough quality players with size.
Didn't SCSU beat a Big South team in football?

Didn't SCSU beat a Big South team in football? 1. We're talking about basketball 2. Yes, we did beat a Big South team this year 3. Yes, Lyons will be a Junior. Good, he can get bigger. 4. We did have quality players with size Haygood/Jackson 5. Yes we have a weight room, but there's a difference in how you eat and train if you are trying to get bigger as opposed to just getting stronger My point was in order to play a full schedule of Big South opponents, we have to be able to defend bigger teams game in and game out.

Has Presbyterian given any indication of moving down or is that speculation? It's been rumored for a while. Things are tight for them financially.

The bottom line is your lean muscle to fat body ratio . Lean Muscle is heavier then fat . And you are correct in your assessment that there is a difference between training to get bigger and training to get stronger. The key is to train for lean muscle and endurance not just for strength a good example would be Dennis Rodman . There is no reason to gain weight if you can not move and have the endurance for and extensive period Of time . The key is your body fat ratio and replacing the fat with lean muscle .

As a someone that has gone back and forth about the move, I cannot deny the potential for growth by our basketball teams in the BS if we adopt. I think it opens our recruiting up and we have to really invest in program improvements to be competitive.

As long as A&T maintains their style of play because speed and quickness trumps balk every time. The BS plays Joyner ball mostly a halfcourt style of play . I think Jones style of play will benefit A&T more then having a lot of big players that can not move or run . I feel that A&T will hold there own against the best in the BS .

Let’s not forget as well as Jones had the guys playing up tempo offense our defense was great. That 3/4 of the floor 1-2-2 trap was super effective. It’s hard to teach a player you don’t have to cause a turnover out of the trap as traps can get non disciplined players in foul trouble quickly. Our trap was to disrupt the others teams offense sets
Big South teams run a lot of set basketball

Welcome uncafan. I'm looking forward to our matchups with UNCA. My daughter attended there for a couple of years before transferring to Mars Hill.

Presby is moving to d-2 so all their programs will have to move.

Pioneer league is a non scholarship div 1 football league. They can offer non scholarship football as a member of the pioneer and still be in the BS for the other sports. Additionally they could drop football all together and remain in BS.
