Alan was fantastic but don't forget who was on the receiving end of most of his passes...Herb Harbison. I picked him and two other kids up in Shelby and Linconton and took them to A&T for a campus visit. One of the kids went to University of South Carolina and Herb and an offensive lineman named Spencer Hamilton came and played at A&T! They both were outstanding players.

This was the game in 1986.....I was in middle school. This was the first game we had won against State in a decade. I remember that tipped reception Harbison caught for the TD. After seeing that play, I knew we were gonna win that game. I was 12 at the time. During those days, I never thought I'd ever see the day where A&T could beat either SCSU or FAMU.

I had been reading about Allen Hooker weekly in the paper, so when I finally did decide to go, this is the game that I caught. I sat on the visitor side in the middle of mostly SCSU crowd at the spot where Herb H caught that pass, and from that day I was hooked. The SCSU folks that I sat with didn’t talk a lot of trash, but they let it be known that A&T didn’t have a chance to win this game, and me since I hadn’t been to any games could only say everybody has a chance. Afterwards I was sold, and don’t remember missing but maybe 1 home game since.

On a side note, after seeing the old yellow helmets in action again, I am officially sold that our next alternate helmet/uniform option should be those throwbacks. I'm cool with it being either these from the hooked clips or even the ones from the '99 title run, with the big block "AGGIES" on chest. I always thought they looked kind of high schoolish, but to pay homage would be kind of tight.
I never really liked the "NC A&T" on helmet, so maybe just the original "interlocking" A&T like from '99 would be cool. We can argue about the blue stripe down middle of helmet, I think it looks decent with or without it. I remember Basnight's teams had it up to the Hicks teams that didn't.
Everybody should also rock the blue and gold striped belt like Chris McNeil used to, always thought that was sweet too.
Just something to ponder cause those old joints do look good.

I looked at the posted clips of Alan and then went back and looked at Alston Hooker's video from last season. They are pretty much carbon copies of each other with the same size, ability to extend a play under duress, pocket footwork, accuracy, and leadership skill sets which ain't too shabby. Alston is going to be a good one.
Most importantly, both he and Wilds-Lawing, will have time to really grow physically and groom their game to transition into college football. With the proper work and coaching these two are really going to elevate our play at the QB spot in a couple of years down the road in the Big South.

....don't know if I'm watching the Aggies or the flamboyant Miami Hurricanes. The mini-celebrations after the TDs were hilarious!!

wow this is great stuff.... Hooker and Juan Jackson seemed to always run a pick play inside the 20.. Always for a TD.. At least that was the way I remember it.. Do you have one?

Alan Hooker was the first A&T player I idolized as a kid. I remember wanting an A&T jersey to wear to school.

I think this sequence right here is actually what you are talking about. A&T ran back-to-back pick plays in the opening half of that game. The first play was incomplete but the next play got them a first down at the goal line:
