Wesley Graves is a 5-10, 227 pound all-state power RB from George Washington HS (1-A) in Danville, Va. who has decided to cast his lot with A&T. He actually signed with us back on national signing day and I strongly suspect he will redshirt this season but he should be major contributor once we enter the Big South next year. He rushed for 1526 yards and 33 TDs on 168 carries (9.1 yds per carry). For a career, he rushed for 4959 yards and 68 TDs over three years. He also carries a 3.3 GPA. A good looking back strong at the point of attack.

A good looking back strong at the point of attack. He also keeps his feet moving, and runs through anybody that makes contact, pure will and determination. That number 77 can be developed into an all pro lineman for somebody.

Looks like a really good prospect that probably did not garner that much attention at a 1A high school . On flip side when Trues sees his 6”9 OL teammate signed we Hampton he is gonna flip out

Our RB roster is gonna be packed, stacked and jacked. I don’t think we’re gonna be throwing the ball like that when we eventually get back onto the gridiron.

The 6-9 kid is a project. Only has played one year of HS football with suspect feet at this point in time. Not really our type of lineman. Our guys need to be quick, that can pull and get up field in a hurry.

he looks great on film, but i need to see this dude play against top competition. he runs with "power", so i need to know that he's not running over folks only because they're not as strong or as big as top competition players (3a/4a). he looks to have very good "speed", but again i need that validated by top competition too.
i mean, no doubt he looks to be a great prospect but i just need it validated by top competition to be sure...

In saying that, don't forget many of the top players here at A&T since the Broadway/Washington era began have come from smaller high schools in the lower classifications. It's a lot less about the competition they played against than it is that this staff has been able to recognize and properly evaluate prospects and then develop the kid once they bring him into the program.
Talent is talent. There's a ton of kids at these smaller HS schools who can flat out play who get no ink at all. Coaching staffs have to be willing to go seek them out and then spend the time to teach and develop. Fortunate for us most FBS and many FCS coaching staffs we go up against in the recruiting wars either don't value or care much about spending time and money in searching out those kids.
Everyone these days wants those ready to go guys straight off the recruiting service web sites. We're a lot different in that regard when it comes to HS players and that is one of the truly unique things that has made our football program so damn successful.

I like the pick up...he looks to be playing at a weight that might be a bit too much. At 227 lbs...seems heavy. I'm thinking if he loses maybe 10 lbs, that would be the ideal playing weight for this guy.

....compared to Bunn, NC, Danville is a metropolis....and we all know who came from there. Frankly, I'm shocked we haven't gotten more talent from Danville over the years. It's a nice-sized town with quality talent (Va Tech plucks from there every chance they can get) and is only a 45 minute drive - straight up/down US 29.

We're a lot different in that regard when it comes to HS players and that is one of the truly unique things that has made our football program so damn successful. a1, i don't disagree with anything you stated, not a single thing. i particularly agree with the part where you said that our coaches "properly evaluate" our prospects and i'm sure that means they do more than simply look at his videos like i did. that may include personally attending one of his games, interviewing his coaches, et cetera. but i can't do that. so i'm saying the same thing. i can't draw a conclusion "solely" based on his video against what appears to be 1a/2a competition. and i'm sure our coaches didn't base their evaluation "solely" on his video. i'm not questioning or doubting our coaches' evaluation. all i'm saying is for me "personally" having only seen his video against 1a/2a competition, need to see him compete against better competition for me to know "for sure" how good he really is. as a fan, i can't really judge how good a dude really is solely based on video unless the competition level is better. heck, i seen one clip of his video where a defender didn't even "try" to tackle him, just "watched him" run right pass him as if he was scared of contact. i remember the rb we once signed from west virginia who looked like a "superstar" on his high school film (don't remember his name), yet he never took a snap for us, transferred to a d2 school and didn't do much there either. now, i know guys like cohen and cartwright came from 2a schools. so i'm not disqualifying this kid based on that, i've already said he looks "great" on film. i'm just saying i need to see him compete against better competition to determine if he's a cohen or cartwright versus being the kid from west virginia...

Hey even at that size he still pulled away from guys for TDs. Reminded me of Martin... looked too big to outrun anybody until he got a step on them and turned on the jets.
