hbcudigest.substack.com/p/north-carolina-a-and-t-to-dissolveNorth Carolina A&T State University will dissolve it's national alumni association this summer and create a new advisory council that school officials say will create closer ties to alumni chapters nationwide. The university’s Board of Trustees unanimously adopted the dissolution measure yesterday during a regularly scheduled full board meeting. In a release, officials said that the new council will have representation on the board, and greater resource and staffing support from the university’s institutional advancement. “Our alumni have an exceptionally strong affinity for North Carolina A&T, much stronger than is typically seen in colleges and universities around the nation,” said N.C. A&T Vice Chancellor for University Advancement Ken Sigmon. “We believe the best way forward for a closer relationship with the Aggie Family is to have a more intimate relationship with our alumni chapters, which form the heart of A&T’s engagement with its more than 55,000 alumni.”

From the article: "Sources close to the association say that the dissolution stems from disagreement between NCAT and the association on its ability to meet goals from it's strategic plan, which was established in 2014 and developed standards for improving the function, visibility and revenue-bearing capacity of the organization."
IMO, this implies money was not flowing to the university as expected.

Before all the "Boo Birds" pounce on this, here's my take on this move. 5 or 6 years ago we moved from an Alumni Association managed by basically volunteers to a paid, fulltime staff reporting to the University. At that time the University was trying to add more stability and accountability to our Alumni Association. During that same time (roughly) the old Aggie Clubs were transitioning to the AAF. Over the years, the Alumni Association has gotten much better managing various Alumni events. And they do an outstanding job in that area. But unfortunately they haven't figured out how to tap into the various Alumni Chapters or individual alumni to build a fundraising vehicle. The AAF has proven to be better at connecting with individual Aggies and raising money. I'm not sure my version is accurate but that's how I've experienced it.
I think the University tried something and it didn't quite work so now they are trying something else.

I don't know if I'm considered a "Boo Bird" or not, but with that said...we as Alumni shouldn't be surprised by this type of move...conferences changes and the like. All it would have taken was notification to the chapters. I can't comment on if think this was a good move or a bad move because I don't know a damn thing. I appreciate your take on this marchingband1969, but was your post just your opinion...or do you know something the rest of us don't?
University admins...if you're reading this just a little heads up...IJS !?!?

welp, like wca said over at mfz, one of the first things dr. martin did upon first becoming our chancellor was to dissolve the "aggie club" and the "victory club" to ultimately create the aaf. so unlike the big south move, this move doesn't surprise me. for better or worse, these kind of changes are typical of dr. martin's mojo...

I will say that they should've had an open line of communication with the chapter presidents before this occurred, not blindsiding them after the fact. However, the chapters aren't dissolved and they will still be affiliated with the university.

I trust Martin, his judgement has not failed us. That said, I don’t trust blindly. I am supportive and loyal, when I am informed.

There have been changes before, and I don't mean one. Hopefully, they will get it right this time. The idea is to bring in more donations from the Alums and increase their numbers. The AAf was to do exactly that too and come under complete control of the university. The Greensboro Chapter raised most of the funds, but by placing everyone under the same umbrella they felt that fundraising would be more efficient and tailored to produce more donors.
