NCCU is obvious. Everyone else on a rotational basis. Our new post season objective is the playoffs so we can't afford to load our schedule with middle of the road or bottom MEAC teams. We must craft a schedule that gives us a good opportunity for an at large bid. Nccu (possible Labor Day) Wake Forest (or $ game) Charleston Southern Top 25 FCS Team such as Furman/SCSU or FAMU (2 yr home and home) Elon Gardner Webb (GHOE) Monmouth Campbell North Alabama Kennesaw State Hampton Charleston Southern is a Big South conf game. Furthermore Monmouth and Kennesaw State are both ranked in the top 13 teams. www.ncaa.com/rankings/football/fcs/stats-fcs-top-25theoretically we can play 5 HBCUs a year and still get a good playoff seed by winning the conf or finishing second.

welp, i suppose there'll be no more "5th quarter" when big south play begins. not only can was save travel costs in the big south, but there's no need for the bgmm to travel in the big south, so we'll save bgmm travel expenses too...

Elon...Elon...over Howard, Norfolk, or Morgan. I don’t see it. We aren’t listening to our Hampton cousins at all. The only way this move will be palatable to our fanbase is if there is a strong mix of HBCUs on the schedule. There is a reason our admin was talking up playing the likes of NCCU and FAMU when this thing was announced. They studied this move for 5 years and even had one committee member vote against this change. Playing Elon and Charleston Southern when you are in a HBCU conference is one thing...but not playing HBCUs when you are in a PWC conference is another. We don’t want to end up like TSU and have folk only come out for homecoming and when we play other HBCUs. At some point in time you have to give the fans what they want or the program will suffer. I remember when the Celebration Bowl was announced and folks on this board decried the move...but the fans embraced the game. A schedule with only one or two HBCUs won’t work for AGGIE fans. Hampton - Conference NCCU - OOC rival NSU - OOC regional game that’s good for the fans, band, etc Howard - OOC regional game that’s good for the fans, band, etc. Same can be said about SCSU. Those HBCU games would be marked our our fans calendars no way we can escape or avoid it...we are who we are. On average our games vs PWI's do as well as MEAC non-GHOE games. The best attended game vs SCSU out of the last 4 in Aggie Stadium has been a whopping 11,530. Hell, VUL even outdraws SCSU! Why do we still consider this a rivalry game? Best non GHOE crowd for NSU has been 14,338 in 2009.Howard 16,011. Let's compare those two schools to our most recent games vs. PWI's. Not a lot of difference if you ask me? Our fans show up depending upon how our team is playing....not the opponent.
Elon(2019) - 16,358 Howard - 16,011 Coastal Car.(2014)- 14,848 NSU - 14,338 Elon(2013) - 13,221 Chowan(2014) - 13,184 Gardner Webb 13,111 Mars Hill - 12,827 SC State - 11,530

My sample schedule counts Chuck South as a BS conference game Of course we can make the playoffs as an at large team scheduling 5 HBCU's. Lol, we proved that in 2016. Of course if we want to schedule 5 HBCU's then we should probably stay in the MEAC? Again my sample schedule allows for a possible 3 HBCU's and balances revenue with rivalry games.

Why has Hampton had so much difficulty in scheduling HBCU's & will we experience the same? Hail, Hampton only has 10 games on their 2020 now...and their 2019 schedule was atrocious. I know we are MUCH different from Hampton but...

decks, "in general" most if not all of those pwc games were early season "home opening games" which are always gonna be well attended. whereas that 2018 scsu game was on a "thursday night" shortly following that major "flooding" problem in north carolina that sent our team and many of our students home, and also scsu at that time was 0-4 and "struggling" in football. in 2016 when we played scsu it was late in the season (nov. 5) when it starts getting cold and our attendance starts dropping. and most importantly, that game was also played the immediate week "after ghoe", we never draw well at home the week right after ghoe. ever since we moved the nccu game to the end of the season, we have "never" soldout that game. whereas when we played them early in the season, we'd have a much larger turnout. early season games are generally better attended than mid to late season games...

Central is a given. NSU and Howard would be our next most attended games, both home and away. They're also good spots for recruiting. I think those 3 should alwsys be on the schedule, if at all possible. As far as a 4th, I'd be okay with rotating the other 4. It would be good for SCSU to have us on the schedule, Morgan would be convenient for our fans, and the FL schools would be fun games.
As a BGMM member, the idea of skipping the BS games is preposterous. We're there for the team, the fans, and ourselves. We wil crank on anybody anywhere.

I know we are MUCH different from Hampton but... other than their main rivals (norfolk & howard), "i believe" the rest of the meac imposed an "unwritten" boycott on scheduling hampton. i know for a fact that dr. harvey publicly complained about it when hampton first pulled out of the meac, basicallly accusing meac schools of "comspiring" not to schedule hampton for any games. even norfolk & howard didn't schedule hampton the first year after hampton left, so hampton had a lot of trouble putting a football schedule together the first year after they left because of it along with the fact that they would not get a big south schedule until the following year...

We wil crank on anybody anywhere. not at big south schools unless you have their "permission". did you attend the coastal carolina game at their place the last time we played them? if so, then you witnessed the bgmm being virtually "silent" in the stands and you also witness the bgmm sitting "silent" in the stands at half time and not performing. the big south is an entirely different "culture". ask a typical big south student or alum what the "5th quarter" is and they'll look at you as if you're crazy...

Hell, when was the last time you seen Elon bring their band to A&T...and they right down the street. No way Big South schools will be sending bands from VA and SC. Even if they did would we want to see them...would we have band battles like we do with NSU. A 5th quarter?? Those days will be over without HBCUs on our schedule. Just having NCCU out of conference won’t cut it. Winning alone won’t cut it...like I said before, we are who we are ! There is nothing wrong with who we are.

The BGMM will show up for Big South games if there's available seats for them in the stadium. And those schools that want to put more fans in their stands will welcome the BGMM. And since the Big South games will mostly be short bus rides, there will be more money available for band trips. And yes there will be one sided fifth quarters.

We've been saying for years that the BGMM needs to do a better job flowing with the game. More short clips specifically for in-game events - interceptions, fumbles, first downs, change of posession. No full songs while the other team has the ball. We're getting there, but we could still do better. This could be what finally forces us to step up our stand presence. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if the band staff was told by administration to tread lightly before, probably with this end goal in mind. But now that we're in the conference, if we show we know how to conduct ourselves, I doubt we'll get penalized. And if we do, I trust Hilton and Martin to go to bat for us. That, combined with some strategic bad press aimed at anybody who doesn't treat us right should go a long way. We did fine at App St and UNC, I expect that will continue in the BS given some time.
