Abbreviated spring practice was 'missed opportunity' for A&T By Joe Sirera joe.sirera@greensboro.com
N.C. A&T football coach Sam Washington says his team accomplished “very little to nothing” during the two practice sessions it had.

GREENSBORO — Sam Washington doesn’t dwell on things he can’t control, but the N.C. A&T football coach knows that losing 13 of 15 possible spring practices because of the COVID-19 virus was “a missed opportunity” for his Aggies. Washington says his team accomplished “very little to nothing” during those two practice sessions. “Both days were in shorts, so we never had the opportunity to put on shoulder pads and have any contact,” says A&T’s third-year head coach. “During the spring it’s very important to find out who can tackle, who can block … the basic things you have to do well to win. For the younger guys, I was really eager to see how they would respond. It’s just a missed opportunity.” The last time A&T didn’t have a full spring football schedule was in 2011 and 2012, when the program was dealing with NCAA restrictions imposed because of issues with the Academic Progress Rate (APR). Washington was a part of Rod Broadway’s staff during those lean years, but the situation is very different today. A&T went 9-3 last season, capped by the Aggies’ fourth Celebration Bowl victory in five years. “We’ve been able to bring in the right kids and they have adapted to the way we do things,” Washington says. But he would like to have had more time with his players this spring. Something Washington says his team really missed is “that one-on-one with the coaches, sitting in the film room and talking about different concepts, different reads. That opportunity is lost.” For the rest of the story:www.greensboro.com/sports/college/ncat/abbreviated-spring-practice-was-missed-opportunity-for-a-t/article_0956156b-55a3-58af-825d-12f33c4a2b1d.html

NCAA could modify contact rules and/or start of fall camp to allow earlier player coach interaction... If CV 19 is under control ( BIG IF)

Something tells me that the game in Fargo might end up being a casualty of COVID-19. I can imagine a conference games only mandate coming down the pike for FCS Football with games not beginning until October.

welp, at this point it appears its definitely gonna be fowler or ifedi under center going into the 2020 season unless a transfer comes in and joins the team over the summer...

the best hope to start the season on time is if they come up with a proven cure or treatment for the virus before then cuz they're not anticipating a vaccine to be developed for at least a year or so from now...

I have my NDSU flight and hotel already taken care of. But I can see a scenario where we cancel or postpone that game.
Again...it's waaaaayyyy too early to call.

C'mon man! September is 5 MONTHS away. If this crisis isn't resolved in the next 8 WEEKS, there's gonna be a lot other problems to combat. Can you imagine in 5 months what it's gonna be like in America with 10 million people without a regular income (and all the things that stem from lack of money), 20 million infected and 100,000 dead. That's the kind numbers 5 month would generate. That's a refugee scenario. We cannot go through the Summer with the virus still spreading, that not something we want to see, in fact April has to be the peak.

I wasn’t excited about NDSU or Liberty. You hate to mis out on the revenue, but the team selection was horrible.

Coaches are already talking about the season being in jeopardy all together if things aren't settled by July 1st.

I don't think that we (or anyone else) are minimizing the overall danger that COVID-19 has brought to the entire planet. I mean, just a few weeks ago we had folks here pissed about the possibility of having a spring game with no fans. Now look at where we are today.
We were merely discussing that fact that our much-anticipated match-up with ND State may not take place. And if that happens, I think that we're all good with that.

Understand, but my post isn’t directed at minimizing the impact of COVID-19. My point is simply, if there is no NDSU game, then there is no 2020 season. If we aren’t back to normal in 8 WEEKS, we will have a new normal.
