Ruiz to Earn NCAA Plaque Football | 2/27/2020 12:55:00 PM
EAST GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T kicker Noel Ruiz who will be a senior during the 2020 football season led the nation in field goals per game. As a result, the NCAA announced on Thursday Ruiz and North Carolina A&T State University will receive a plaque to honor Ruiz's accomplishment in the coming months.
Ruiz averaged 1.92 field goals per game to lead the country. Ruiz made 23 of 27 field goals (.852) during the 2019 season obliterating the single-season school record which stood at 15 before the season. He also broke the single-season school record for field goal attempts.
He was fifth in the nation in field goal percentage and 10th in the nation in scoring with 116 points. Ruiz also made 47 of 52 extra points during the season. He had the second-best scoring season of all-time at N.C. A&T behind teammate Jah-Maine Martin who scored 126 points last season.
In his career, Ruiz has made 37 of 51 field goals and 139 of 155 extra points. He needs six field goals to break the school record for field goals made. He will need 34 extra points to break the school mark.
The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) named Ruiz first-team all-conference. He also earned All-American honors from the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and BoxToRow.
N.C. A&T opens the season 6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 5 at home against Shaw University.
