Nothing prohibited it under NCAA rules but that so called agreement, or non agreement as it was, lasted exactly one year and was ditched when it became apparent that teams were taking a significant recruiting hit and the no's soon had a sudden epiphany.

My thoughts were limited to my understanding of the current basketball travel arrangements. In track I can see how consolidation would work better. The teams are basically at the same place for the same length of time. In basketball the the game times are different, the shoot arounds times are probably at different times and maybe different locations (off day). The same for pregame and postgame meals. Plus when we were allowed to feed the teams at the DC Aggie Alumni House they came in separate buses. The prevailing mindset among D-I HBCU's as it pertains to basketball travel is that if you can't afford to send the teams on separate buses, you probably should not be in D-I. It's more of a pride and perception thing than anything else.
