This hasn’t been discussed, I don’t believe, but the Big South has requirements to provide a cost of attendance stipend to the men’s and women basketball teams. This will help in recruiting. link |

What we talking? About $52Ka year and I think we already handle some of those expenses so it wouldn't even be the full $52K on top of what we already do.

"assuming" your estimate is correct, that's roughly $850 per semester per men's and women's scholarship athlete that we previously were not "required" to pay? that's $52k less funds that could be allocated to travel costs. mind you, in the big south our men and women basketball teams will no longer travel together (to save money) because the big south separates the men's and women's basketball schedules. so instead of being able to kill two birds with one stone as we do in the meac, we now must kill one bird with one stone which costs more... |

Maybe I'm wrong because I'm no expert on this but I dont think part of what you are quoting is included in "cost of attendance". We already do some of the stuff considered cost of attendance. Its just not called a stipend. So some of that money will just be moved and not technically cost us anything. |

It's my understanding that Women's and Men's traveling together is a misnomer. They generally stay at the same hotel and probably eat together on the off day, but they travel on different buses with different schedules. The hotel rate is probably based on a MEAC negotiated rate for guarantee stays per year. I'm sure the Big South has a similar deal. Assuming so, and it cost the same to stay in Dover as it does in Farmville, aren't we still trading a three night stay (Fri, Sat, Sun) for two games in the MEAC into a two night stay for two games in the Big South? What do we do when we go to Orangeburg? That's probably the model for future Big South games

We've been offering cost of attendance for both the men's and women's basketball teams since the NCAA first put it into full affect (2016). At one time the only MEAC members that offered stipends (COLA) were Hampton and A&T. I don't know if that is still the case or not but in any event, it will have no new effect in our transition to the Big South.

It is left up to Athletic Department and the AD as to how the man's and woman's teams travel . Most programs D-1, D-2 , NAIA allow the men and women to travel to meets are games on the same bus when they are competing at the same venues if they do not fly in . The NCAA has no rules that cover male and female travel accommodations . |

If I am not mistaken didn't the MEAC vote against it's member schools providing COA /COLA/Stipends for student-athletes ? It was said that Chancellor Martin was up - set that it was not approved . |

My thoughts were limited to my understanding of the current basketball travel arrangements. In track I can see how consolidation would work better. The teams are basically at the same place for the same length of time. In basketball the the game times are different, the shoot arounds times are probably at different times and maybe different locations (off day). The same for pregame and postgame meals. Plus when we were allowed to feed the teams at the DC Aggie Alumni House they came in separate buses.
