I'm sorry making free throws and making layups os not coaching that's a simple will to get better. Coach is putting together game plans for upcoming opponents.
Those items are not fixed during the grind of a season they are fixed when nobodies around and you as a player known you are a poor free throw shooter/finisher at the rim.
I would hate to see what some say for the team to shoot 85% from the FT line but only attempt 3 per game because we have no real game plan to attack and take a bunch last second shot clock jumpers.
It can be a apart of "official" practice yes but much of that time needs to be installing game plan for upcoming opponent and even refining what we do.
Sometimes the onus needs to be on the player.

The two examples that come to mind are Brittany Taylor-James back in the day and even Lessears two summers ago. They both came back with different bodies, different attitudes and different games. It is a player's personal commitment to fine tune their game by working hard everyday in the off season when no one is around. Be the gym rat. Coaches can encourage it, coaches can require it, but coaches can't do it. Both of our basketball teams are horrible at the free throw line. It also helps if you recruit an 80% FT shooter or two.

I agree that players need to improve their games and use the off-season to do it.....no argument from me. With that being said, we're collectively a sloppy team. vs Delaware St - 28 turnovers vs Bethune - 16 turnovers vs Morgan - 30 turnovers vs Coppin - 8 turnovers vs Del St - 24 turnovers vs UMES - 24 turnovers vs FAMU - 19 turnovers That's an average of 21.28 turnovers per game with respect to conference competition. That's too many turnovers and it highlights a team that plays sloppy basketball. The coaching staff has to clean this mess up - I'm at the games. MEAC opponents aren't trapping us full court or even half court. We do a substandard job of running our standard offensive sets. Not to be flippant or sarcastic, but missing layups or FTs don't count as turnovers. Despite us doing those things, we still commit waaaaay too many TOs. We're too sloppy and I gotta put that on the coach and his staff to clean that up in order for us to be more successful.

I simply mentioned poor free throw shooting and missed layups by players who have been on the team 3 or 4 years because that is the easiest glare to point out from poor coaching.
Yes, great coaches do teach players the proper techniques and form to shoot free throws successfully. It is evident that our players are not getting the necessary time to practice free throw shooting or are not receiving the proper techniques to shoot free throws. Once they get the proper techniques they then can practice it during the off season or whenever.
Man, we have good athletes but to "me" they are not focused, sharp or refined as they should be. Especially players who have been on the team for several years.
They are making rookie mistakes handling the ball, passes not crisp, poor shooting from the outside and sometimes lack of hustle.
I am not calling for the firing of our coach but he just need to hold the players accountable for their play when they should be better in certain areas.
He should coach them in a way that they steadily improve year by year. That is my main gripe because I see players who have been here for 3 and 4 years and their fundamentals and zest has not improved.

I am also concern with our lack of ability to feed the post which should be the strength of this team.I don't mean to force feed but to feed within the flow of the game. It's a tough ask and to expect in season corrections may not be realistic but without quick improvement it is going to a long season.
