Here's a scary thought......we may be even better next year. No guarantees. But yes... the potential is definitely there with Mac returning back to 100%. Mac at 100%. Addition of Crossen and Salahuddin in the secondary. The return of 2018 Celebration Bowl MVP Kittles. Cox, Bullock, and Porcher on the line to join Harrel and McDaniel. Not to mention the BEST line backer corp in the MEAC and one of the best in FCS. I am VERY MUCH looking forward to seeing Blue Death next year. Welcome Mr. Cox......let's go to work.

It will take some time to get his confidence and instincts back.

He will not start on this defense. Cox will be a very quality backup, but there is nobody he is beating out for a starting position on the defensive line or linebacker corps. Thrilla you wildin....lol. Ain't nobody on this squad promised anything. But its hard to imagine a former 1st team all MEAC DE and BOXTOROW All-American not cracking our starting lineup. If that happens then we will truly have an embarrassment of riches.

I am a little concerned about the DT position, if coach has Stanback playing DT I will be less concerned. Furthermore we need Tyquan Johnson to play...we usually rotate 4 Interiir linemen and need a 5th in case of injury.

Is he moving back to WLB and beating out Roberts? Is he moving back to MLB and beating out Howard? Is he beating out Stuckey at SAM? Is he playing Rover? ------------ Just like I told you guys about Prestige Edwards last year: I dont care how good the kid might be, there is currently no room in the Inn.

Porcher will help....but the recruiting period isn't over. Perhaps we will bring in a star who can help us right away. DT is such a physical position. It's rare to see a freshman come in and immediately adjust to the physicality that is required as a college level DT. Fingers crossed.

His best attribute is being an edge rusher.

My gut says he will fill that void just fine. And with all of the talent amassed with Porcher sliding in as the 3-Tech DT and all of our firepower at DE now, we should be better than okay. All we really need Tyquan to do is just command a double team and free up our firepower in a 1v1 match up.

Our best bet at a 4-man DT rotation would be: Michael Branch (if he got the redshirt for a final season) Robert Porcher IV Thomas Washington (redshirt freshman) Tyquan Johnson (redshirt freshman) If this is my rotation, I can live with it. Washington & Johnson are young trucks.

Prestige was an unproven freshman....a little different from a former 1st team all MEAC performer and an BOXTOROW All-American. But I hear you.

I'll say it again. Cox does not have to start at DE in order to be effective.
On average, a defensive plays 60 snaps a game. So there are 120 total DE snaps per game.
If there's a 3-man rotation between McDaniel, Harrell and Cox, you can see a 40-40-40 split. We were worse in multiple games this year due to injury.
If there's a 4-man rotation between McDaniel, Harrell, Cox and either Bullock/Stanback/Robertson, then we're looking at maybe a 35-35-30-20 split.
30 snaps per game for Cox is a lot of opportunties to make plays while playing fresh.

We know that.
But I'm just trying to explain to folks that we are the 3 time defending HBCU National champions.
Nobody is just coming in off the street and immediately jumping in front of a returning starter. You have got to be special just to to crack the rotation.

Imho, we will have a 4-man rotation at DE. And don’t be surprised if we move to more of a 3-4 [3-3-5] multiple front scheme where at least some of the time, these DEs will be stand up OLBs.

Even when McDaniel came in last year from App State, it took some time before he became a starter, I believe.

We are also picking up another V-Tech DB transfer I hope it's that kid from IGM Khalil Ladler . Ladler has a lot of playing experience and was a contributor all season . He could A&T's starting Safety if he is the transfer I'm thinking of .
