Always nice to steal one from your Rival! He only appeared in 2 games last year (not sure of the reason) but probably one of their better players. Should be a solid contributor on the D-Line. From NCCU Website:
2019 - SENIOR SEASON
Selected to the Preseason All-MEAC First Team.
2018 - JUNIOR SEASON
Appeared in 9 games with 9 starts. Voted All-MEAC Third Team. Tied for sixth in the conference with 4.5 sacks, to go along with 6.5 stops for a loss, 26 total tackles and a forced fumble. Registered season-high 5 tackles twice - at Delaware State (Oct. 27) and versus Edward Waters (Nov. 3). Selected to Preseason All-MEAC First Team.
2017 - SOPHOMORE SEASON
Started all 11 games at defensive end. Voted to All-MEAC First Team. Announced to 11th annual BOXTOROW All-America Team, honoring the top 29 players in HBCU football. Tied for second in MEAC with a team-high 8.0 sacks for 42 yards lost and three forced fumbles, while collecting 43 total tackles (27 solo), five quarterback hurries, two pass break-ups and an interception returned six yards for a touchdown (at Hampton, Nov. 4). Tallied a season-high six tackles twice - at Howard (Oct. 7) and versus Delaware State (Oct. 28).
2016 - FRESHMAN SEASON
Appeared in 11 games, including one as a starter on the defensive front. Collected 36 tackles (23 solo), including 5.5 stops for a loss with 1.5 sacks, along with a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a team-best five quarterback hurries. Recorded a season-high six tackles at Duke (Sept. 3).

Hey... this is in 2-3 places. I know we're excited, but let's consolidate a bit.

He's a player, friends. Best season was in '17, where he was 1st team All MEAC & BoxToRow All American. Opposing teams schemed around him in '18, & he allegedly began to display some disciplinary issues, although if you watch the Aggie Eagle '17 on youtube, you'll see it there. He was #28 first half, #9 the second half. New coach comes in for 2019, and he was disciplined by sitting. Played well against Towson i believe, got back to Durham, & left the squad the same morning. Entered the portal a few days later. Summation: Good athlete, good football player, very capable & has a Blue Death Defense mean streak. A legit concern is self-discipline. If he can pull it together, he's a value add. If not, we'll see more unsportsmanlikes, unnecessary roughness calls, & media day apologies. Time will tell. Give dude a chance.

In order for this to happen, Coach Courtney Coard & Cox would have to come to a real good understanding of each other. That includes discipline. And Coach Coard just molder Darryl Johnson into an NFL DE. So there's incentive for Cox to make this work. 2. We're not as young as we think. At the DE position alone, we have two returning redshirt junior All-MEAC players in Devin Harrell & Jermaine McDaniel. At LB, we have All-MEAC redshirt junior Kyin Howard & Joe Stuckey. And we still have seniors Mac McCain & Richie Kittles. 3. Cox is from South Carolina and has previous friendship with Jah-Maine Martin & Dejour Simpson. 4. Because of #2 and the addition of DT Robert Porcher IV and a bunch of talented freshman, Cox won't feel the pressure to have to do everything for the defense. Also... he can be replace if he's not doing what he needs to do. So I like the gamble.

He & Martin are friends, & that played a role in the decision to come to Greensboro. Given his athleticism & his style of play is suited to what Coard/Washington like from their defenders, he'll start. The question is where? At DE, Rover, or ILB?

I don't see a position change, although I could be wrong. We're really loaded at LB. He'll still be an edge rusher, I think. I don't know that he starts after a year off. And I don't think it's that imporant that he starts because we like to play in 3-4 man rotations (preferably 4). So if we have McDaniel/Harrell/Cox as your core 3-man rotation and then add the best of Tagg Bullock, Janorris Robertson or Kyle Stanback in as the #4 guy... we're pretty dangerous off the edge. And for early games on the road like North Dakota St and Liberty.... I think a guy like Cox relishes being in an opportunity to make a realistic impact in those types of games off the edge. If I was in Cox's shoes and I've seen A&T win those types of games in the past, that would be a big part of my decision as well.

He will not start on this defense.
Cox will be a very quality backup, but there is nobody he is beating out for a starting position on the defensive line or linebacker corps.
