Exactly. And what the hell has TSU gotten out of that $1.2 million budget?
That is a colossal waste of money if I have ever seen one.

I've tried to stay out of this "Who's better than" conversation because I'm very bias. But I thought I'd share a few numbers with you guys. Folks on this site more than anybody else understand that it takes resources (money)to build any program... sports or bands. And to build a top level band, like building a top level football team, you've got to pay to play. You need scholarship money to get top level student musicians as well as athletes to come to your school to perform. So let's talk about annual scholarship budgets just for band students: Norfolk State..$400,000 (Every student is assessed $100 student fee for band scholarships) Jackson State...$700,000 (75 out of state band student waivers) Tennessee State... $1.2 Million (85 out of state band student waivers) Grambling State... $325,000 Alcorn State... $600,000 Prairie View... $810,000 FA&MU ...$1 Million A&T... $100,000 and no out of state band student waivers! With $100,000 we have to recruit against every top level HBCU band as well as all the PWI bands in the state. And don't forget, the BGMM is also operating out of a drafty warehouse ...not a first class music complex. How many top level bands are in the state of NC? I wouldn't think its that hard to get students over the likes of any HBCU in NC. We still have the largest band in NC. I do understand you have inside knowledge of the current band and its staff so I trust in your numbers that you are saying. Being in the warehouse is better then being in Frazier Hall and those late 90s early 2000s A&T bands gave you a lot of what people on this topic are speaking of. The BGMM right now is not a destination spot that students want to be apart of as much now. Sure they want to be apart of Golden Delight and Cold Steel but as a wind instrumentalist its not as sexy as it once was.

In Charlotte a few years ago, Tennessee State's band cut our a$$ in the stands. Band culture, like football, is richer in other parts of the country. Its a fact that certain schools (SWAC) are used to doing battle several times during the season. MEAC bands don't see each other enough to generate that type of excitement/preparation. All that being said. A&T can put on a hell of a halftime show. But should stay FAR away from stands battles.

I was at that battle in Charlotte and I was so embarrassed🌚 An Ncat student recently went on twitter and said southern univ band was #1..that rubbed some of the current band members the wrong way.

Based on those numbers the BGMM are over achievers...where a program like football be if we had the same funding disparity.

We could spend all that money and have a BCU size band playing the same dang songs🤷🏾‍♂️. Don’t be fooled by the smoke and mirrors of talking about money. If this conversation was about band size I would understand but it’s not, it’s about aggressiveness, culture and song selection.

As 2039 stated, we don't need a zillion dollars to put on a dynamite halftime show and be creative and live in the stands throughout the entire game.
Ain't too many bands can out blow us and that includes many SWAC bands. All we Aggies want is for the band to show up and represent first class with some soul searching music and steps that will wake our wine and cheese fans up and suppress Alcorn.
We don't need a lot of cash to do this. All we need is for the band director to unleash his conservative style and produce an exciting and bonafide soul strutting show on the field and definitely in the stands.
We got the horns and beauty to do it.

IMO we are the top band in the meac but that’s because we have a MUCH better song selection than our meac counterparts. Our halftime shows are also better than any meac/swac band.

It doesn't take a large budget or huge band to be aggressive. I remember when Deleware state got one of Southerns arrangers back in 06. They were a force that entire season. Deleware State "Crazy" 2006 youtu.be/dEwEVj0PIUcDeleware State took down Famu marching band that season as well while being 1/4th the size lol youtu.be/rm3NHYtBjpM

I didn't know what you do in the stands is what makes a marching band? Hmmm... I don't think displaying hood like behavior in the stands contributes to the A&T brand.

The overwhelming majority of the time a band spends at the game is in the stands. I'm just saying.....
I'm not trying to dump on the BGMM....I think they are great and one of the best. But I also think the criticisms expressed in this thread are valid. As far as HBCU bands go, our action in the stands is average at best. And yes.....SWAC bands typically excel in the stands.

Outside of yelling Aggie Pride, everything else seems to be our new "30% Black" lol
