5 years beyond that Term details weren’t given but it was stated that ESPN is happy with bowl and there would be more financial support. ...And 5 years instead of another 6-year contract??

There isn't an FCS school/conference in the country who would not BOLT IN A HEARTBEAT to trade for the exposure and check that we get from the Celebration Bowl. Seriously......if ESPN approached The Big Sky Conference and the Missouri Valley Conference and told them that they would pit their conference champions against each other in a bowl game to be featured nationally on ABC, those conferences would be PEACE OUT.
Outside of making it to the championship bracket of the FCS playoffs and winning it all, nothing could even compare to the exposure we get. And even that game is not on ABC like the Celebration Bowl is. Its on ESPN and probably won't get the same time of viewers that we got. We've been on NATIONAL television four out the last five years which means when our commercial plugging our school plays, the ENTIRE country can see it. During this same time our school has grown exponentially........yet some folks would want to go back to the FCS playoffs which provide no benefits whatsoever for our school unless we are lucky enough to win it all.
I just don't understand why some are clamoring for us to join the Big South or some other conference where the teams and the schools don't enjoy nearly the type of NATIONAL brands that our HBCUs do. I just don't understand it. The conversation that we need to be having is how can we continue to leverage the brand we already have to work even more for us......not how we can and should depart to "prove ourselves" against Weber State, Maine, and JMU. We have FAR more in common with Howard and FAMU and all other HBCUSs and this is where we should stay.

The FCS Championship game will be on ABC this year. Good for them....I'm sure they probably negotiated for that after seeing us on ABC for the last five years. LOL. Still wouldn't want to abandon the Celebration Bowl for going back to the wastelands that are the FCS playoffs.

We are not moving. We need to stay exactly where we are and make our athletic department financially stable. Regardless if the situation presents itself. Money is the key. What we need to do is concentrate on upgrading our Athletic facilities and expanding our seating capacity for the Football stadium and adding more money for athletics scholarship and marketing.

So it looks like the ASun is looking to create a Football conference they control, pulling KSU and UNA away. Not only that, they are “exploring” the possibility with multiple teams from the OVC, Southland and SoCon.
It will be interesting to see what the four conferences do should this new conference form. I suspect the Big South will need to add at least two teams so they can stay above 6 teams to keep their AQ.

What makes you think we wouldn’t be a candidate for this new conference?

The Big South Conference will implode one year soon. I've been saying that we (MEAC) should be approaching a few of their members and gauge their interests in coming into our more-stable league.

The silly thing about all this is with ABC/ESPN Celebration bowl and check, we really are in an envious position. No other conference on our level has this advantage, best believe they are trying to find a way to have our positioning.

Right now big concerns whether SC State and BCU will be able to maintain D1 status.
State is down to 946 students with upcoming SACs review.
BCU still has major financial deficits with an upcoming SACs review.
