Since the band was scheduled to travel to FAMU and did not because of weather, will they travel to Morgan? Unofficially...NO! Their next scheduled event after the SC State game is to perform on Saturday November 9th in the Veterans Day Parade in Wilmington. This has been on the BGMM's schedule since the start of the season and is a major recruiting trip. The Wilmington area is a key recruiting market for the A&T students and BGMM band members. We get a ton of students from the eastern part of North Carolina and this gives us major exposure and media coverage.

But let there be a brand bawl in BFE West Virginia and Dr. Ruff will be there with the quickness. "Recruiting Trip" during football season. SMH. I can't believe he actually typed that with a straight face.

I knew the "Band Boo Birds" would surface when I posted that they were not going to Morgan. The fact is... they haven't gone to the Morgan game for several years. And yes, student recruitment continues even during football season. If we want to have 180 to 200 talented band members in the BGMM, we have got to recruit year round.

Wow would have liked seeing them in Morgan Stadium performing but other matters are more important. So will they play John Phillip Sousa marches for this event would like to see this event. Still for a university of our size why can not march 300+ musicians on a partial scholarship. Can some of the Student Activity fees be utilized? Just asking the question Why?

gotta admit, that "shiggidy" is funny!! It is funny...but, folk know bs when they hear it though. You can recruit in the DMV just as well you could in Wilmington. You know the ole saying, "You can't slick a slickster or a can of oil!"

Still for a university of our size why can not march 300+ musicians on a partial scholarship. Can some of the Student Activity fees be utilized? Just asking the question Why? We could have 300, 400 or 500 band members if we just wanted to have a bunch of "horn holders" in the band. All we have to do is eliminate the band auditions, cut band practice to 2 or 3 hours a week and we probably could get a lot more students to sign up. Unfortunately if we did that the quality of our band program would go down and we'd be embarrassed with the bands performance. I believe there are 4 factors that limit our ability to increase our band membership: 1. Having a top band program takes a lot of student's time and commitment. Not every student wants to invest that much effort for a extracurricular activity. 2. A&T's academics are tough so most students rather focus on their books and graduation not band. 3. There's a declining number a students taking band in high school and that means there are fewer musicians. And even fewer African American band students. 4. The top high band students are getting scholarships to play in the band. A&T has the lowest amount of funds available for student scholarships. NCCU has a larger scholarship budget. A&T provides other resources for the band rather than scholarships.
