I want the University to have more events like the Alumni Concert. Rather than outsiders booking venues and hosting concerts and day parties, why can't the University do that? There are tons of young adults paying out hundreds of dollars to non-university sponsored events. It can start small...rent 3 or 4 hotel ballrooms and go from there. GHOE is starting to be like the CIAA Tournament... everybody but the University is making lots of money off of it. I would think its the direct liability factor that would keep the university out of it. I'm sure it's got more to do with the University's desire to just focus on a few events than a worry about liability. And I understand their concern...it takes additional resources to plan and manage additional Homecoming events. But at this point, the University is missing a fantastic opportunity to make more money off of GHOE. Let's face it, private individuals and organizations are just reserving event spaces around the city, arranging DJs and entertainment, placing some ads on social media and making money off of the GHOE brand. If they scheduled that event on any other weekend, they would have to do more to break even. A&T owns the GHOE brand, a great mailing list of alumni and the experience of the Alumni Concert...everything they will need to do additional events.

If anything, the Alumni board needs to get with the foundation and let the foundation put on multiple alumni concerts in 2020. You'll have at least 3 facilities to host concerts in 2020 and from what I saw this year, you'll have an ability to reach multiple alumni generations who will be influenced to give back. It may require a little more capital upfront and working with Diamond Life Concerts closely but it could be a huge windfall for the school.

If there's a space with multiple large ballrooms, they could rent that out. Have each ballroom playing music from a different era. 70s,80s,90s/early 00s. You reach multiple generations of the alumni base that way. There's way too much money being left on the table by the school.

The great thing about GHOE is people are willing to pay in advance for future events so it will not take as much of the University's upfront capital. If the University announced to alums that it was going to sponsor a "Day Party" for thirty somethings and tickets would go on sale June 1, I bet they would sell our in a few days. I think the University needs to contract a professional "Event Planner" to search out locations, negotiate contracts, and manage the event. We've been running too many events with "volunteers" and it's time we stepped up. Not knocking volunteers but we need professionals to plan and operate these multiple events.

Another action would be to possibly partner with various groups that throw events during homecoming like how they partner with Diamond Life. Or the school could get a little aggressive and book these venues and "sub-lease" the spaces out to a list of vetted promoters and event planners. I know there was a vendor expo in downtown Friday before the game and that event is growing every year. That's a perfect opportunity to partner. The Thursday Young Alumni Mixer is also a great idea.

I had an opportunity to tour the new Student Union with Mr. Stallings this past Monday. The student union has two ballrooms and a mega amount of space. The Union is more like a convention center / mall. I could not believe how big it is...... As far as I can tell it was not being used for homecoming other than folks walking in and there mouth dropping to the floor

The university and students refer to that beautiful edifice as the Student Center. They seem to have moved on from calling it the Union and left the term Union behind for past generations. Remember when it was the canteen and later the union? So long ago. Generational changes do occur.

This may not be on topic but whoever hires the entertainers for the Friday night concert and dinner at Four Seasons need to retire. The entertainment this year was terrible along with the horrible food that was available. If Four Seasons can't serve any better food that was on hand A&T needs to find another venue.
I paid the maximum for 2 tickets to attend that show with Johnny Gill and it was a waste of money. I know it is scholarship money or money for the university but the performers should be better. If not, they may not get many people to attend. I take that back it is GHOE time and our people will sell it out if Joe Blow and the Turtles were performing.
Seriously they got to do better. I heard a lot of grumbles about this past show and a few said they will not return next year or in the near future if the performers are not better.
Who picks the entertainers for this event?

I think Diamond Life Entertainment produces the youth concert. Not sure about the alumni one.

I think they're using volunteers for the Alumni concert. And I agree the food is sorry and the acts are often poor. I pay $100 plus for shows in Vegas and enjoy it. Most of the Alumni concert acts are well past their prime.

Exactly who would you like to see perform for the alumni concert since you found Johnny Gill and SWV boring?

Exactly who would you like to see perform for the alumni concert since you found Johnny Gill and SWV boring? i didn't see swv, but i did see "envogue" and johnny gill. envogue was definitely "boring", they almost put me to sleep! but i felt that johnny gill was pretty decent even though it looked like he put on about 50 extra pounds and had a big ole "pot belly". last year, babyface wasn't too entertaining to me. nor were patti labelle or gladys knight when they came. i think they need to bring in "upbeat, more up tempo" type entertainers who can motivate the crowd to dance. even though they're up in years, i'd luv to see someone like "george clinton and parliament funkadelic"! i saw them in new orleans one summer and they can still pump up a crowd. i'm not sure, but i think one year we had "frankie beverly and maze", they would be "perfect" for the alumni concert. but these sit down "singers" like patti labelle, gladys knight, and babyface will put yo azz to sleep. bring in some "up tempo" entertainers that alums can "dance" to...

I heard that most people liked Baby Face last year. Johnny Gill was sorry as hell. He was not prepared and it showed. That is why he actually started preaching to the crowd to stall for time.
Many, many people said both performers were horrible.
Aggies are paying too much money to have to watch acts as the ones who performed for GHOE 2019.
I don't mind paying $160 for these shows but in the future Diamond Life or whoever got to get better performers for me to continue to attend.
Also, wish we could find another venue. That damn food was not fit for a dog. Four Seasons is using us and they have gotten complacent in their duties to give us quality service.
We need to protest against Diamond Life and Fo Seasons.
