When I saw the team run to the end zone and pose for this picture I groaned and thought somebody on the field should've taken a leadership role and dissuaded them from that behavior. At the very least they could've pulled the guys to the sidelines and posed there.
Then it reminded me of something I heard happened under Hayes when we got an excessive celebration against SC Steat.
At practice on the Sunday following the game Coach Hayes said "that was pretty funny what y'all did after we scored that last touchdown yesterday. Why don't y'all line up and show me again?" The whole team ran down to the other end of the practice field yelling and hi-fiving. Coach Hayes yelled down "that's great!, now do it again!" So they did it to the other end of the practice field.
I don't know how many times in a row he made them run back and forth after that, but from what I heard they got the message.
I wonder if we'd remember the humble but hungry motto if everybody had to run sprints back and forth except for the gentlemen in this picture, and the gentlemen in the picture were given cameras to record their teammates suffering for posterity.
Not to be a Doomy Downer but you would NEVER see NDSU doing this at any point in any game. Discipline is paramount and we lost it right there.
I still like the picture, I just think you have to pay for it.

Doomy Downer, I don't blame the kids. The NFL has actually sanctioned it now, which to a 19 year old, legitimizes it in the moment. They'll be OK. I agree with discipline, but we are not NDSU nor do we need to be. You were 19 once. You score fiddy on a team, you're feeling pretty good about yourself. When you consider that other than Pettiford, most of the guys in the picture are second teamers, let them have their moment. Now that they are no longer 50-point virgins or touchdown virgins, they can act like they've been there before because they have. For the culture.

I agree with Dooms. It's not about being 18 or 19, there's no excuse for bad behavior. It's about being mature enough and understanding the situation. This is an example of why I cringe when people say it's just a game. Wild Bill understood the the dynamics of the situation and turned it into a teachable moment, probably for life. Though it's a nice pic don't forget it was a meaningless touchdown in a rout. Would they have done that if the score had been reversed or if that TD had put us within a FG of the score? If not, then call it for what it is, bad behavior!

Hmmmm...it's bit conflicting here! Kids imitate what they see in the NFL. The celebration is legal in the pro's. For one, the fans like it. Those kids meant no harm. No gestures were made to show up their opponents. I'm sure the coaches addressed the matter appropriately. In fact, the picture should be used in the future as a promotion of some sort.

Maxwell, you and Gator are so wrong, dead wrong!![/quote] No one is Wrong or Right here it's just different perspectives I'm old school my father would always say to us when he was coaching up in Baseball , Track and Field , B-Ball and Football " There's not thing wrong with emotion after a good play be always ACT AS IF YOU HAVE BEEN THERE BEFORE " But he would always give leeway to the backup players to a degree because they were not starters But ones they became starters they had to show Humbleness and Character Pic's like this one day soon will be a thing of the past after 2020 (at least in California ) because photos like this are exactly what the players are referring to if there likenesses are being used to promote or advertise for there schools or someone else's profitable gain .

Football isn't some deep metaphor for life. It's just a game. I'm here all day for having fun. If you're not taunting the opposing team or exposing yourself then I'm for it.

Hi.
Person who took that wonderful picture here and long time reader, first time poster.
Just came to say the celebration was for Jalen Fowler’s first TD. So while it looked like they were being cocky or not humble by celebrating a “meaningless” touchdown, it wasn’t meaningless at all.
It was an important moment for him and i’m glad I was able to capture it (:

So, some of you don't think that what the players did was unacceptable? Wonder what the coach thought? Wonder what the team will think if it is done to them? HINT,HINT.

This was celebratory and is in keeping with the way kids today revel in success. The display gave props to a kid who was in desperate need of a confidence builder and in no way could be characterized as bad behavior (unlike the bullying incident). This team obviously has good chemistry and the players respond to the emotional positive style of the coach.

So, some of you don't think that what the players did was unacceptable? Wonder what the coach thought? Wonder what the team will think if it is done to them? HINT,HINT. Let's think through this, modern day.... I'm sure every single player in this photo is doing a little extra running between now and the FAMU game for the penalty. But if it was so egregious.... why would this picture end up on the A&T Football account of arguably our best social media outlet? http://instagram.com/p/B3VCTm1HdD_ Now Coach Washington doesn't use social media. But between Coaches Barnette, Gibbs, Coard, Howard, Pawlowski and Jones.... at least 2 of them (and likely all 6) know this post is up. Football is sports entertainment. Most of these guys have this window in time left on their athletic careers. I'm glad Lena was able to capture the moment for Jalen. And the coaching staff is likely telling the guys something along the lines of "If you don't want someone else to do it to you... gotta put in the work to keep it from happening." But our football staff is savvy enough to know that this is recruiting gold in this day & age. It's pretty clear they are playing right along.
