I think there should be an explanation of what we are getting out of this deal. You could sell Krispy Kreme donuts and get more than 150k a year. That in the fact they gave HP 5x what they gave us when our football games, track and field, and tv will expose BB&T to 100x more customers than a sally league bball team in hp that will never have more than 1500 folks and no one from out of town will ever go there and they will never be on tv. I do believe that there has to be something better, not even the most incompetent can make a deal that bad. For transperancy purposes they should include the details. The blood sweat and tears of the AAF built that stadium way back when, and if they going to change the name the AAF should not be requesting info, it should be demanded. not trying to be cynical, but i hear folk all the time saying we could've got a better deal. well, if that's true, then why hasn't any other hbcu gotten a better naming rights deal for their football stadium, if any at all? and if our folk are so incompetent, why don't the critics go out and strike a better deal for a&t and i'm sure hilton and martin would be receptive. look folks, just because a corporation strikes a certain deal with a pwc doesn't mean they will strike a similar or better deal with an hbcu, nor are they "obligated" to do so. sometimes you have to take whatever you can get, especially when you're not giving anything away. they can put a "bb&t" sign at every entrance, every exit, and on every seat in aggie stadium and most aggies will still call it "aggie stadium". so how is accepting a $150k payment for changing the official name of aggie stadium in any way a bad thing? doing "nothing" and not getting paid at all is a bad thing if somebody offers us $150k to do just that...

....it still doesn't change the fact that we should ask what we're getting out of this BB&T deal. ....and frankly, we need to ask what are the MAJOR FACTORS which determine the payouts BB&T gives to respective universities and what we can do to increase their funding to OUR INSTITUTION.
I'd rather have $150K than zero.....but I don't think anyone believes we should be content with this amount, moving forward.

so would you have recommended turning that deal down? and if so, then do what? cuz i am confident that's all they could squeeze out of bb&t, if they could've got more they would have. something is better than nothing... Sent from my SM-G950U using proboards

What makes you think that the AAF dose not have the information ? Look even for a 150K which is no small amount there is a paper trail . You can not make me believe that this information has not been provided to all parties that requested it . Hale even at WT which is D-2 and thing that click's on that campus all the organizations are notified and updated and treated as a form of public record . Someone in the AAF knows what is what . Now getting them to tell you it's another thing.

I'm all for taking folk money but I also can't help but wonder how much legwork was done before we took the deal.
It not only affects us, it affects what other hbcus can ask for in the future. Hell, it affects what we can negotiate in the future. If the largest hbcu out there is getting 100k a year for 15 years why should another get more and how much more should we get if we renegotiate?
Would we have done better if we pushed the narrative regarding how much HPU gets and taken those numbers and shopped them? Hell, we could easily slip in free advertising for them nationally on ABC during the postgame Celebration Bowl interview by simply having the coach mention their support. Did we actually shop the numbers and mention what we bring to the table and end up with the best we could get?
I generally don't doubt the acumen of the folks in charge but sometimes you have to have the right people in the right positions to do the negotiating. Did we have that in this case?

I would never have signed that deal even if it meant we would be the first. You teach people how to treat you. And if we tell BB&T that is ok that you think the folks at a small baseball stadium in High Point is worth more than my average of 15k folks over 60k at homecoming. What does it say to the hbcus after us..lower your worth so the corporation can accept you. Absolutely not. You ALWAYS demand your worth. And if BB&T does not value you there is someone else who will. But i really dont believe this was the deal i just cant. But i wish they would announce the real deal so we would not look so thirsty that we hbcus will settle for pennies. Because the announced deal is exactly that.

Sent from my SM-G950U using proboards You say you're confident that's all they could squeeze out of BB&T......You may be the only one. I behoove folks to ask how the $100K (not $150K) annual allotment was formulated and were there other corporations even in the mix. We've beaten Charlotte, ECU, App St, Elon, Gardner Webb, Central (all NC schools) over these past handful of years We've won 3 Celebration Bowls in the past 4 years Maybe it's me and my grandiose opinions about my school, but I believe these accomplishments warrant more than $100K per year from any corporation to enable them to "Trumpify" our stadium. Others may disagree, which is fine; $100K sounds a little light in the Aggie Wallet to me....

My original question was how is that $150K ..er ...$100K being used.
We've brokered this deal and so far the only thing we've done is change the signage on the stadium.

Are you requesting access to the athletic department budget? I'd assume that $100k is included in the operating budget.

I see a lot saying A&T could have gotten a better deal in one breath but in the same breath when pressed about the deal say they do not know the inner workings of the deal . Which is it .

But i wish they would announce the real deal so we would not look so thirsty that we hbcus will settle for pennies. Because the announced deal is exactly that. just asking, but do you think we're better off accepting "nothing"? because i don't know of "any" other hbcu that has sold naming rights to their football stadium. now, that could be because they've turned down deals similar to ours, but i doubt. i think its highly more "probable" that no other corporation has offered any other hbcu the willingness to buy naming rights to their stadium. again, i'm of the belief that "something is better than nothing". i know some folk think its not a good deal, but i have yet to see "anybody else" strike a stadium naming rights deal for "any" other hbcu. to me, that says there is no "high demand" by corporations to pay naming rights to an hbcu stadium. its difficult to "leverage" negotiations if there's no "high demand" for what we offer. we can say well high point got this or high point got that, but we don't know what motivated their deal. who knows? maybe bb&t has a high point grad on their executive board that influenced their deal? we don't know. but i really don't think we can look at high point's deal and say we deserve as much or more than they got because we don't know the circumstances behind their deal. also in the business world, what we "deserve" don't matter. in the business world, we are only worth whatever our highest offer is and last i checked, we don't have any other offers. so unless some other corporation is willing to pay us more, then our stadium's name is worth exactly what we got. like i previously stated, if someone thinks they can strike a better deal, then by all means go for it. but i think hilton is a pretty "savy" guy, he's no fool. he has a law degree, so he knows what he's doing. do you really think hilton would accept a deal if he thought he could do better elsewhere? i don't. i believe if he could've got more, he would've got more. but to turn down $100k per year (or whatever the figure is) when you don't even "remotely" have a better deal elsewhere is asinine in my opinion. we can sit around waiting for another offer from somebody (which may never happen) if we want to. meanwhile when coaches and athletes complain about lack of funding, taking long bus rides instead of flying out of town, how do you explain turning down $100k per year just for changing the name of your stadium? oh, we turned it down because we got our feelings hurt because high point got more? we'll just wait for another offer that probably never will come? that $100k per year can go a long way towards scholarships, facilities, or whatever hilton deems fit. imo, he'd be a fool to walk away from that money just because he feels we "deserve" better. he has no grounds to make that claim because nobody else is offering us "jack"...

Something is not better than nothing if it means selling your soul. Im looking at this from clearly a business perspective btw.. thats why this could not be the deal.
If anyone has ever dealt with advertising either buying or selling there are business standard metrics here. If you are buying a newspaper ad you pay for that newspaper circulation. News and record ads cost more than the Greensbork times..same with radio ads and tv ads..down to the slots...7pm cost more than 3am because of reach. Everyone on this board might not understand this but surely anyone that complete even the most basic of marketing programs would know this. And you can bet the executives at BB&T definitely know this.
If this indeed was the actual deal people should be fired for incompetence. And Aggies should protest BB&T for blatant racist policies for institutions of color.
Lets just hope this was not the deal it would dissapoint me greatly about the professionals handling our affairs.

We don't know the terms. It very could be $1.5 million now and the sign stays up for 15 years as opposed to $100,000 per year. If it's the former (the money up front), that's not a horrible arrangement at all. And I can think of terms in between that would be favorable also depending on the immediate needs of the department.
