Seeing those pics made me sad and mad at the same time. It made me sad to know I walked that same sidewalk everyday while in school. I makes me mad to realize the sheeet is still happening today with police 50 years later.

Good friends with George Grimes (Willie Grimes' younger brother), terrible situation. We can't forget about SCSU and what they had to deal with as well. Seems like so long ago, but really it was just yesterday... to me, it is this "shared" history that bonds all hbcu's together. that's why my loyalty lies with hbcu's, we're family...

Remember well this atrocious situation. I was in Cooper Hall when they stormed the dorm early in the morning and forced us out onto the parking lot of the old student union.
Some guys were in their underwear on that hard a$$ concrete laying face down because they did not have time to put clothing on.
Once the students were out of the dorm and laying face down on the pavement at their orders, gunfire erupted from the National Guard and Greensboro police.
They had us in a crossfire and bullets were skipping off of the concrete near our heads and bodies. This inhumane and cowardly action lasted about 1 minute.
Once they stopped shooting at us they had about 10 NC State prison buses up near Barnes Hall and forced us to get on the buses.
They filled all of the buses up with students and paraded us downtown so whitey could see us locked down on the buses.
After several hours passed the cops and National Guard carried us back to campus and told us to pack our stuff and leave.
Sad thing, when students returned to their dorm room to pack they discovered a lot of valuables, clothing and other stuff was missing or destroyed by the National Guard.
3 days of hell but the Aggies held their on.
My good friend "Grimes" was murdered. The longest unsolved murder in Greensboro history.

When I arrived to "T in the summer of '75, the Greensboro Brothers reminded me of myself (growing up near a HBCU- me, NCCU). MLK Univ was in a house by the Holland Bowl, and Malcolm X Liberation Univ, was in my Durham Neighborhood-having been moved from Phillips Ave {I understand}. SOBU (Student Organization for Black Unity} inspired Brothers and The Veterans from Nam would gather under the Tree at Scott Hall and reflect. Summer School was small then, with a lot of day Students, so it was perfect to sit and listen. Me, without a car, stayed on the yard, doing that, checking out the Laundry ect...I think, exploring the Mattye Reed African House (Afro House) and watching the McAdoo Summer League was my world. We would hardly go uptown because of the bad vibes up there. That being said, every Homecoming I try to leave a pot of Flowers at the Grimes Memorial (It was protected- during the construction of the latest new Student Union, and moved a few yards inland), and a pot of Flowers for Paul Roberson's Bust. And sometimes on GHOE friday I would Post up at the new Scott Hall Memorial Reflecting Pool, with maybe a couple of Congas, to teach about what i knew about '69. Your Post helps. The Yard is still rich with things. A&T'
