By comparison, this was the Day 1 results from 2018: meacsports.com/documents/2018/5/3//Thursday.pdf?id=4025We're in a good spot, especially on the women's side. FAMU was up 42 pts last year after Day 1 with us only scoring 8 pts. This year, they're only up 34 pts with us scoring 18.5 with an extra 5.5 pts by freshman Paula Salmon (tied for 3rd in high jump) and Loren James finishing 4th in discus (5 pts). Considering that we lost by 0.5 pts last year, those extra 10.5 pts on Day 1 actually set us up well for the rest of the weekend. On the men's side, NSU was up 25 and BCU was up 18 last year with A&T only scoring 4 pts after Day 1. This year, NSU is up 23.5 and BCU is up 20 with A&T scoring 14 pts. Freshmen Joshua Faison (2nd place) and Obie Taylor (5th place) gave us 12 pts. And freshman Morris Kimble's 7th place finish (2 pts) in the 10,000 meters finished our scoring. The big differences on the Men's side.... Freshman Regan Kimtai in the 5000M, 3000M steeplechase (today),the 1500M and possibly the 800M. He projects to win at least 3 of those events. 5 men qualified for the 200M final this year, compared to 4 in 2018. And... 3 men qualified for the 400M Hurdles final, compared to only one in 2018. On the women's side, 4 women qualified for the 200M final, compared to only 2 in 2018. The focus will be on the NCAA-showdown between Kayla White and Cambrea Sturgis but freshman Kamaya Epps and redshirt sophomore Taliyah Townsend (injured last spring) will also pick up points that were missed (at least 5 more than in 2018). In addition, 3 women qualified for the 400M Hurdles final, compared to 2 in 2018.

Thanks for the insights dga, they'll be invisible to most on Saturday. The YtY improvements are impressive.
My "championship" house flag is flying high!

Yes, and BCU GOES 2-3-4-5-8 ..... Big win in women's Steeplechase for Butler HUGE win for Butler. Even bigger because she and Cready did not qualify for the 800M final. It's almost important because Camille Martin didn't run in the 3000M steeplechase.... likely to preserve her for the 5000M today. She struggled last year, lost her lap count and didn't point. That 1 point also help cost us the title by 0.5 pts. This is Coach Ross' strategy at work. The big point projections are today: 4x100M - 10 pts 100MH - 24 pts (3 runners) 100M - 19 pts (4 runners) 200M - 21 pts (4 runners) 400M - 18 pts (2 runners) 400MH - 10 pts (3 runners) 800M - 8 pts (1 runner) 1500M - 8 pts (2 runners) Pole Vault - 8 pts (1 vaulter) Triple Jump - 10 pts (1 jumper) 5000M - 3 pts (1 runner) 4x400M - 10 pts We do what we're supposed to, and the ladies have a 200 point score and walk away with the title.
