Katherine A. Murphy (“Kathy”), Interim General Counsel and Compliance Officer, joined the Office of Legal Affairs as Deputy General Counsel in September 2015. She became Interim General Counsel on September 1, 2018. Kathy came to North Carolina A&T State University from the N.C. Attorney General’s Office, where she worked in the Education Section representing all the campuses of the University of North Carolina system, among other clients, in litigation. Before becoming an attorney, Kathy was a tenured professor in the Mathematics Department at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Kathy earned a B.A. with Honors in Mathematics from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1979. In 1983 she received a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Brown University. She obtained her J.D. with High Honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1999. Kathy is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the Order of the Coif. Rashanda is a graduate of North Carolina Central School of Law, Durham, North Carolina and received her Juris Doctorate in May 2002. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from North Carolina Central University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science in 1999. In 2006, Rashanda received her certification as an Equal Employment Opportunity Adjunct Trainer from the Office of State Personnel in Raleigh, North Carolina. She is a member of several University committees such as: Residency Appeals, Public Relations Council and Emergency Response Team. She is also a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Erin Hill Hart Appointed Interim Chief of StaffGREENSBORO, N.C. (July 17, 2018) – After two years as the associate vice provost for enrollment management in the Division of Academic Affairs, Erin Hill Hart has accepted a new appointment as the interim chief of staff in the Office of the Chancellor. Effective July 18, Hart will serve as the principal liaison and senior adviser to the chancellor, a member of the Chancellor’s Cabinet and provide strategic and operational support for internal and external constituencies. In collaboration with other Cabinet members, she will be responsible for the planning, organizing and driving of initiatives and activities of the university. She will also manage the Office of the Chancellor and the chancellor’s day-to-day engagements. She probably will, if there is a suit, but a lot of representation for universities comes out of the State Attorney General's office. Unless the state has changed how state institutions are represented. Maybe we should wait until all of the information about this situation or case is in to see how it plays out.

EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. (March 22, 2019) – In a special meeting last Tuesday, the Board of Trustees at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University voted unanimously to appoint Melissa Jackson Holloway as the university’s general counsel, effective May 20, 2019. Holloway currently serves as deputy general counsel at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana where she provides a wide range of legal support services, including the supervision of attorneys and support staff; management of the university’s response to external requests for information; government inquiries; external and internal complaints; supervision and management of outside counsel; representation before state and federal agencies; and drafting of contracts, policies and other legal documents.
