A&T Women's Indoor Earns No. 14 National Ranking

EAST GREENSBORO (February 12, 2019) – Fueled by a historic performance from Kayla White, the North Carolina A&T women’s indoor track and field team has achieved its highest national ranking in school history.
The Aggies come into this week ranked 14thin the nation by the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The Aggies jumped an incredible 36 spots from last week to earn the historical ranking.
“We’re not excited nor surprised,” said Duane Ross, N.C. A&T’s director of track and field programs.” We stay in our little corner of the world and we train smart and we prepare well, so we know what we can do. We know we’re one of the best programs in the country.”
White’s historic performance at the Tyson Invitational over the weekend helped with the tremendous leap in the rankings. White is the fastest 200-meter indoor runner in the world this year after she ran 22.82 at the University of Arkansas’ Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark. White also helps the Aggies national ranking in the 60m and 60-meter hurdles.
She is fourth in the nation in the 60mh with an 8.04 time she ran in Arkansas last week. She is 10thin the country in the 60 thanks to a 7.25 she ran at Virginia Tech on Jan. 11.
Freshman Cambrea Sturgis is ranked in the top-50 nationally in the 60 at No. 35. Sturgis’ biggest impact comes in the 200 as well. She is 11thin the nation after running 23.19 on Jan. 31 at the Carolina Challenge hosted by the University of South Carolina.
Junior Madeleine Akobundu gives the Aggies a duo in the 60mh as well. Akobundu is ranked 11thnationally with a time of 8.12 ran at the Tyson Invitational last week.
