There are more benefits than just the naming rights. Truist Bank also donated money to the COVID relief fund for the students. I'm sure there are other instances of donations and benefits from this partnership.

thing is, something is better than "nothing". what other hbcu has "naming rights" to their football stadium? and what da hail do we have to lose? all we're giving up is a doggone "name"! yet personally, i still call it "aggie stadium". hail, we've been playing in aggie stadium for what, 'bout 40 years? well, how much money did we make in almost 40 years by keeping our stadium named "aggie stadium"? yet, we "complain" because somebody is paying us for a "name" that our previous name didn't produce not one red dime for a&t? I’m sorry sir but anything is not better than nothing. Especially when you’re the first. If it were me I would have taking that offer and took it to any business in the triad to see if they would beat it. And that would not have been hard. If we were doing it just to be the first might as well let M&F do it. It would have been the first for both of us. Mama always said just because you finish the test first doesn’t mean you get an A. again i ask, how many other hbcu's have a "naming rights" agreement on their football stadium? <crickets> that alone should tell you that corporations ain't knocking down walls to pay hbcu's for naming rights to their stadiums. but guess what? p5 schools don't have that problem. so again, i suggest "something" is better than "nothing" for hbcu's. if an hbcu doesn't take "something", they will wind up with "nothing". please prove me wrong. what other hbcu has a naming rights deal?

What makes you think they didn't shop the opportunity around? A&T first announced in 1997 we were looking for a naming rights deal for Aggie Stadium. It took 21 years to find a taker. Sorry but I don't see where we can afford to turn our nose up at this offer when nothing else has been there for over 20 years.

Simmons Bank paid UAPB $2.5 million to rename stadium As I recall that deal involved football and baseball facilities. How long is the contract?

Didn't Renick make a deal with Ford for lights, and in return their sign sat in front of the stadium for years?

Simmons Bank paid UAPB $2.5 million to rename stadium Well there you go - if there was any good that came out of that deal is that other HBCUs figured they could get 3x that. #knowyourworth

Some of you guys need to do a little research into banks. M&F's total marketing budget might be half of what BB&T paid us. And I'm not saying $100,000 is a large amount of money but it's a whole lot more than anyone paid before the 120 years before. And if you guys have some bigger donors lined up to pay big bucks for naming rights, I'm sure Earl and Chancellor Martin would welcome the money. Stadium naming rights are like company logos painted on race cars...the money is nice but they don't make the cars run faster.
